WCMF To Make "MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT" Wednesday

A few possibilities;

--Everyone came to their senses and Wease and Entercom reached a compromise agreement

--Someone else from CMF's past (Dave Kane? Pete Kennedy?) is signing up to be new anchor of the morning
team, which frankly could use one

--They've thrown in the towel and opted to sign up with a syndicated morning show, and the host of said
show is in town tomorrow to launch his/her/their presence on CMF

--The station's for sale, or has been sold to a local or regional buyer pending FCC approval

--There's a major format change in the works and the station's going in a whole new direction

Any of the above, singly or in combination, is possible.

Me thinks they found a new morning host that they dug up from another station down the dial, or that (simply put) the afternoon person is going to do mornings (or an afternoon drive person from another station)

But...(most likely not) there's always Bob and Tom...

Channel 13 (WHAM-TV) reported during their 5 o'clock news tonight that Dave Kane is expected to return to pm drive on WCMF.

(Kane has been working on WHAM-TV's morning show during his radio hiatus.)

Raising Kane

It looks like Kano's back, likely at a rate more in line with Entercom's pay structure. He and the others who were let go were encouraged to re-apply. It looks like Dave decided that half a loaf is better than none.

It's good that Kane's back. He's been missed (though thanks to channel 13, not totally among the missing). If he's taking afternoons, of course, even with programming duties attached, that may leave his mornings free to continue to contribute to Channel 13's wake-up show. (Given the state of the radio biz today, it's always good to have a second-front job.)

The morning show still needs more focus--someone needs to step up and take charge like Wease did. Maybe they're still leaving the door a tiny bit open for Wease...and maybe the station's still a potential part of a sale package, now more salable with one of its traditional frontline personalities back on board in an important daypart. Or maybe Kane is being brought in with the idea that he'll eventually move into mornings if the current lineup doesn't deliver after a couple of books.

The last chapter of this whole story has yet to be written, IMHO.

As both a former WCMF PD and a former Entercom PD, I'm pleased to hear that everyone concerned was able to find a way to get along. It's great to have Kane-O back on the air where he belongs. But I gotta say, I hope he's ready to sit in on more meetings than he has ever been in in his life.
