WCMF's Robinson On The Move...

B

This coming in this morning from AllAccess: "ENTERCOM Classic Rock WCMF/ROCHESTER, NY afternoon man ROBINSON exits and heads to mornings at PAMAL Classic Rocker WBPM/POUGHKEEPSIE, NY. He will team up with SHANNON O’NEAL to form "ROBINSON AND SHANNON IN THE MORNING" starting MONDAY, JANUARY 10th."

Yesterday he was basically saying farewell to everyone on CMF, it was obvious he was leaving town and going somewhere...now we know where.

This one's puzzling, and it must be the money.

Brian Robinson is well regarded in the market, he's a talented, funny guy who does a solid show and is walking away from market 56 to go to a gig in the Hudson Valley that's 108 markets down the list at 164. Sure, it's a move from afternoon to morning, but if that's the only reason, it's a move he could have made in a market more comparable in size to Rochester. If Pamal, the owner of the station he'll be joining next week, isn't opening up the bank vaults to him, it's a move that makes you scratch your head...

Next question; what does CMF do for their next afternoon host?

He's got a long row to hoe. WBPM sank to a .9 (12+) in the Fall '09 book. As you say, it's got to be the money...

It appears WBPM has no place to go but UP, which may make this a very wise career move for Robinson. He goes from PM to AM drive. Poughkeepsie is a stone's throw from NYC and Market #1, 1, 1. And maybe there's family involved. It's not at all hard to conjure.

Surely there are a few qualified candidates in (and around) Rochester, yes? (He respectfully wrote, not meaning to be self-serving.)

Assuming all to be true...this is complicated & projected. (Disclaimer : author has no inside, just opinion)

this might work for him personally.

Maybe, maybe not...maybe just reaction to the "status" of things. (Is it always the money?)

He's got a long row to hoe. WBPM sank to a .9 (12+) in the Fall '09 boo

Maybe, just maybe, they want THAT talent to bring 'em around, and he sees a challenge, not just a job?

So there it is. Opinions only. Life is not as it seems.

That's all

Looking back at how Entercom has appreciated morning talent assets in recent years, perhaps a small-market station owned by Pamal looks like the better place to establish himself as an AM Drive guy than anything within Entercom?

I'm betting Bill Lacy doesn't think this is weird at all.

Karma's a bitch!

Eh...no loss. His "Schitick" got old...same stupid callers...same stupid jokes that we told in High School.....

OK...now that I've had the chance to listen to the new idiot that took his place, Robinson wasn't that bad. This new guy, Crowley?? He's a moron and will not last long. He doesn't have it.....

Curious how things change. When Robinson left for the Hudson Valley gig, many here discusses the transition to a smaller market. Except that it wasn't a smaller market for long. While he was there Hudson Valley became a much larger market, moving up to 39, while Buffalo and Rochester slid a few notches to 55 and 57 respectively.

Well, he must still "be on the move", because he and Shannon are no longer on WBPM as of September. ::)

Where did he go?? Not surprising...I went to the WBPM site and looked at the pathetic "play list"...they play the same music day in day out - it didn't look a big operation.

But Gee...the stations here play the same stuff too....

Same crap day in day out. God it gets boring! Doesn't anyone get it?? The same Ozzy tunes...same Rush tunes....same Pink Floyd tunes...same Hendrix tunes.....you know...these artists did record more than 3 tunes.
