WCMG 94.3 Florence

Changes coming at 9:43AM Friday? Currently playing a construction sounds loop. Any guesses if Magic is tweaking the format or completely blowing up the station?

Wow. Magic 94.3 flips to active rock "The New 94-3 The Dam". Opens with Ozzy Osbourne's "Let Me Hear You Scream".

Didn't see THAT one coming.

That is interesting. Florence has enough rock stations as it is. You have 104.1, 102.1, plus two or three others.

Actually, 102.1 (the Fox - classic rock) is the only rock station that really serves the Florence metro. Miller's "Bad Dog" has a sketchy signal in Florence proper, as do the stations originating in Myrtle Beach. Interesting that Cumulus would effectually eat itself by hosting the only two rock stations in the metro. Also, abandoning their role as the primary urban ac in the market leaves those shares to be split up between the Big DM and Qantum's WZTF.

WOW! Totally did NOT see this one coming. As for Bad Dog, Miller also has Bad Dog on the 97.1 translator serving greater Florence. This definately makes up for losing KZQ in the PeeDee. Now Florence needs a CHR!

WCMG has always been a loser. Very poor presentation/production value, and not that great of a signal either. Obviously, there is a great audience for urban AC in Flo, as seen in the Big DM's success there, even with a so-so signal. In my opinion formats have always been poorly thought out in Florence, and really there are just too many rimshooters with poor signals, and zero creativity.

Sounds a lot like Columbia.

Florence used to be able to hear WKZQ when it was on 101.7 ?

Ahhhhhhh Yes... the old 94.3. I remember when WPUB was still there and the offer came for them to go 25KW.... I remember it like it was yesterday. We did our part to move and that was to 102.7 and then they went up the power ladder.... For some reason and I do not know how true it is, but they never got bang for their buck as to what they thought they would be able to do on 94.3.... when Cumulus took over that did not help matters much either... Maybe with active rock they will do good, but I am sure it will fizzle like everything else has done CC1

Yeah, although not perfect, but everytime I was in Florence, I picked them up.
Oh, now this makes sense. There was an active rocker on 102.9 but they went urban AC. I was never able to understand this since Magic was already there.

This is bad. Very bad. I pass right by their tower on the way to the beach. I can hear them whether I want to or not, and urban AC, while not ideal, was at least tolerable.

Seems werid the once rock station in Florence is the Urban AC that overtook the est. Urban AC. Leaving the est. Urban AC flipping to rock.

"Very bad."?
How often do you go to the beach? Sixteen times a day?

Okay, it's "very bad" for about five minutes. ;D

Here's what actually happened. As I passed the tower Easy 105.9 got really quiet and then disappeared briefly, but I did not hear rock music as a result.

I did hear this station in Myrtle Beach, which I don't recall ever doing with the urban format. I was on the fifth floor and on the north side of the building, though.

Didn't see THAT one coming.
I am curious as to why they would choose the name Dam, except for the fact they get to use the word a lot. There are no major dams in that area. This would make more sense where Santee-Cooper has its big lakes.

Except for a vague mental relationship between the Pee Dee River and some dams which is never outright stated, I'm pretty sure the fact they get to use the word a lot is so far the only reason. At least it seems to be when I've listened or looked at the website or the Facebook.

"Welcome to our Dam live remote broadcast here at JimBob's Used Cars and Gun Shop with the entire Dam nation in tow! Come on out, get some Dam prizes, register to win a Dam cruise, and we'll give you as many Dam bumper stickers you can fit on your car!

...sorry, couldn't resist!

In all seriousness though, there is/was a station up in North Dakota called "The Dam". Not too much water or big dams/lakes up there I don't think.

Radio-X

"...honey, could you please turn it to that Dam radio station?"
