WCMH-TV Leaving Downtown Studio

I know this is a radio message board, but this is a significant move in the market.

WCMH-TV (NBC 4) is leaving their downtown studio at Broad St and High St. Their Midday News broadcast has originated from this location for the past few years.

WBNS-TV (CBS 10) will be taking over all of the signage at the location but will not use the space on the first floor as a studio.

NBC4 understands Downtown Columbus is not the happenin' place that Mayor Coleman wishes it to be. Doesn't surprise me that their exiting before their lease is up.

Read someplace where WCHM already left that space over a months ago. As I recall, it was talking about Donkin Donuts being (evicted) from that space at Broad and High. Checked the WCMH Noon show and they were still broadcasting from there as of last month.

Since WCMH and WBNS were both vying for the signing back in 2006, WCMH got the lease since there were also willing to build a new studio
at Broad and High. Would Ch. 6/28 be willing to take over the WCMH studio at Broad and High?

The studio did seem to be an afterthought for NBC4 and they used it as little as possible. It is likely that the two stations were both vying for a presence at Broad and High and NBC said they would lease the space as well as signage. To me, 10tv seems to be a more logical choice for downtown anyway. Wonder what is going in between Tim Horton's and Cafe Lola?

There was big fanfare when WCMH got that space ..If I rmember they did their morning news and the 4pm (at the time) afternoon news and 12noon news from there.. Then for awhile they abandoned using it only for special events like Red White and Boom and then I noticed a few months back that they were using it for the 12noon cast again... I watched today and the noon news was from the Olentangy studios.. My guess is they have packed up the video gear and are gone now for good... If I remember I saw the 12n news from there as recent as a few weeks ago (I mostly watch ABC6 at noon beacuse Channel4's news at 12n is only 25 minutes due to an informerical at the end.

Then the old WCMH-TV Downtown studio won't ever be used again by another TV station. Wonder how much that Downtown studio cost WCMH-TV
to construct? Maybe a few hundred thousands dollars? Not a good investment for three years of service but they were on there during the recession.
The recession did not help the resurgence of Broad and High, like it was hoped.

Never say "never"  :)

True, although there was probably some sort of tax abatement that softened the blow.

Right, although locating there might have proved a bust even in better economic times.  I wonder if they would have fared any better in the arena district...not that there are throngs of people milling around there on a typical no-event-going Mon-Thurs, especially during the day.
