WCMQ-FM now "Zalsa Z92"

Well, I see the post about WMIB....

I noticed a readout on the car radio today on WCMQ-FM 92.3 "Z 92" "Zalsa" (apparently cashing in on the spelling of "El Zol").

Came as a surprise to me. I thought the Clasica 92 format was doing well, and it was surely a unique format in the USA.

I have no idea when the change took place.

I heard them say "Zeta. Nueve. Dos." (Z-9-2)

Clásica was doing poorly, mostly due to the over-65 demos it attracted. It was billing about the same as WMIB... and much less than half the billings of market leading WAMR.

Hmmm. I suppose I can throw out my idea of an "El Fonografo"- or an XEB- style format here..................

Neither of those makes money, either.

The problem in the US is that 18-49 is the standard demo for Hispanic targeted buys. Not 25-54... so old leaning stations don't do well financially.

Mexico City now has silent AM stations... not because they are moving to FM but because they are in legal issues and it's just not worth it to run them in the interim.

Lots of "El Zalsa" ads on the sides of MTA busses, too.

I suppose, then, this happened some time back; haven't seen the ads. Goes to show you how much attention I've paid.
