WCMR - Bruce

I noticed where WCMR 94.5 in Bruce has been sold to Edgewater Broadcasting....Does this mean it becomes a full power religious translator?? You would think someone could have made something of that station.

You've got to be KIDDING ME! WCMR going religious..ewwwwwwww

> Does this mean it becomes a full power religious translator?? Well, there is no such thing as a full-power translator, of course. A full-power station is a full-power station, BUT...They can use Bruce as a feeder head for a daisy chain of true translators operating outside the "reserved band." Since translators may not be fed via satellite in the non-reserved band (channels 221 and above), See 47 CFR §74.1231(b), often folks like EMF buy a low-performing full-power to feed via satellite, and hang non-reserved translators off it. This might be such a station.Just a thought.DE

With the sale of this Bruce station, are there any other properties for sale in north Mississippi? FMs or FM combos?

Certainly, but do not expect them to appear here.
I gotcha. Would it be worth it if someone picked up the phone and call you? ;)

Thanks...Serious sellers know the serious buyers...that's why deals go down and everyone is surprised. It is also why those who have info speak not.

I was just in Bruce just today listening in on WCMR.Live and Local during the day.Pretty nice sounding audio chain minus something sounding like the pilot tone thats present during spotsets.

"Any station's for sale, just depends on what you're willing to pay".
Like the old Willie Nelson song, "If you've got the money, honey, I've got the time."

*I* *ABSOLUTELY* agree there! I've personally known station owners that would never put their station on the market, but would sell it if the "right" cough cough.. offer was made!!

It's that way in most businesses. However, in my dealings with smalltown radio operators, what it's worth and what they think it is worth are two totally different numbers. ;)

Bruce is such a small townnot many businessesyou cant even buy gas or food after 10pmonly 1 fast food place.. SonicWCMR's audio and processing are nice though there is almost a bit too much compression. I do like the sound though. Theres a high pitch tone behind all the local spots (something like up close almost as high as a pilot tone).

Agree with you on the sound. They also have a really good signal easily covering Pontotoc and Houston as well. It also got into New Albany (for the most part), but Tupelo was hit or miss (mostly miss).

It sold for under 200K (I believe) and Russell and Roberta left town posthaste.

I saw in the local paper where Edgewater is turning it over to Horizon. That seems to be somewhat common for Edgewater. Its sad though. I worked for Russell & Roberta. Great folks and I loved WCMR. Wish it could have kept going. Would have been great if I could have bought it. It had great potential but it required someone comitted to the area and willing to give it tons of attention. You have to love what you are doing to do that. That's how much i enjoyed it.

WMCR was a great hometown station.. Not long ago I was requested to put my Grandmothers radio on WCMR after sticking our heads in the door to try to catch up with a cousin who works there. I didn't get to see the studio or anything however.
