WCOA Pensacola

Today it appeared WCOA's new 104.9 translator may be testing. A quick search shows me that a month ago the AM filed to reduce from 5kw to 2kw full time.

What's up?

They are probably going to one tower, and reduce power cost. Which makes sense with the new translator. I did not look at the application, so it is speculation.

Unlike the other Pensacola AM's, WCOA did not file to put their translator downtown but instead chose a tower in a well known nighttime dead spot in their directional AM signal.
The last Cumulus Pensacola advertising literature I saw had the average audience of WCOA-AM running neck and neck with WRRX-FM. WJTQ running about the same as WMEZ and WXBM way out on top.
