I got to tell ya', without a doubt, the most incompetent and radio-ignorant management team ever assembled are all gathered under the roof of WCOD's new owners. These people's incompetence is amazing in it's width and depth.
Boch Broadcasting's final management team spent 3 years of hard work busting their asses to dig WCOD out of the hole it was in, finally getting it heading in the right direction, surpassing WQRC as the most listened-to radio station amongst adult women for two consecutive books, basically gift-wrapping a dominate radio station and handing it to the new owner and management team....and what do the new owners do with it?
They drive it back into the ground!
Instead of building on the success provided by Boch Broadcasting, the new owners and management decide instead to re-vamp the morning show, overhaul the music, and change the brand and imaging of the station. In other words, the new owners chose to fix something that wasn't broken. It doesn't get any dumber than that. Even a radio LISTENER has the common sense not to fix something that isn't broken, yet there's WCOD's new owners doing just that. Unbelievable! The new owners could have owned the adult women with WCOD and the young-adult women with WRZE, but instead they chose to kiss all of that revenue good-bye.
When is the "Wizard of Osbourne" going to finally wise-up and realize the number one obstacle to ratings and revenue domination on Cape Cod is his own GM, OM, and PD? These people don't even make correct decisions accidently. The incompetent GM hires an incompetent OM, who in turn hires an unbelievably ignorant PD, and in less than a year WCOD is on it's way back into the hole. I bet you the new managers are going around blaming everybody and everything else for the demise of WCOD...blaming the Hot AC format or other radio stations instead of putting the blame where it belongs...on themselves. That seems to be their method of operation. Unfortunately this method won't sit well with the owner. The owner just overspent a butt-load of cash to acquire WCOD and now he's not going to get any immediate return on his investment. Perhaps heads will finally and deservedly roll....
How sad is it that a used-car dealer had more radio-sense than a radio ownership group? If you ever want to drive a station into the ground just call WCOD's management team. Killing successful radio stations is the only thing they know how to do correctly.
