WCOH best Classic Country around

If you catch yourself on i-85 South near Newnan, check out AM 1400 WCOH. The station plays 24 hours of classic country. In fact it beats Eagle 106.7's classic country collection out of the water. The Program director must really put his/hers heart into the music to make it sound as good as it does. Keep up the good work.

And all he EVER posts about is either WCOH or AM 720 or Magic 98.1. I'm thinking he's probably an employee there. King Creole, get out and about and get a life. There really IS more to Atlanta radio than those few meager southside stations.

I don't even consider those Hogansville stations Atlanta radio. More like midwest GA, not-quite-near-civilization radio.

first of all i think an employee of these stations would be aware how obvious
it would be to readers to post like that..... second have you ever bothered to
come down to coweta/fayette/troup county area, you may think we're redneck hillbilly's down here, but your sadly mistaken... there is life outside of the perimeter.... pretty exciting life too.....

peace.....>

Whew! I thought I had inadvertantly stepped into a time machine, punched it up to 88 mph, and traveled back in time to last week...when I didn't care.

One thing I have noticed is that its really easy for people, some of who aren't even in radio, to bash a station or its decision. Why not actually praise a station for the positive attributes for once. Second of all, the Clear Channel stations in Newnan mean a lot to the people in the 6 county area that it covers and serves. Yeah big flippin' deal its owned by clear channel. The staff at the stations work thier collective ass off to do the best damn job they can do. Some of the talent, both past and present, at that group of stations is better than some talent in Atlanta. Present employees like Uncle Rich, Benji, Chris East, Jackie Steel, Heather Lynn, Shaun Cleaves, Johnnie Lesak and past employees like John Scott, Tom Copper, Josh Head and Rut busted hump 8,10,or 12 hours a day to bring the best programming possible. Many times thier programing does out rank Atlanta's programming. I have noticed that it is real easy to bash the GM Joe Pedicino for taking prgrams off or switching talent around, but he's doing what is best for the stations. Thirdly, Am 720 the Voice actually gets into parts of Atlanta. I have picked up 720 from 285 @ I-20 althe way to the Alabama State line. So some of you Atlanta radio listeners come on out to the south side or even the west side (b-92, kiss 102.7 Wkng, and WLBB) to hear real LIVE and LOCAL programming!!

I made Max laugh! Let the healing begin.

from an Atlanta ex-patriot...

I spent many hours listening to WCOH at my house back when I lived in Newnan. Atlanta is a big area and it's a pleasure to hear a station that doesn't agonize over the top end perimiter traffic woes (Oh my achin' 285 toe).

No, 'COH is no WSB and Magic 98.1 is no 99X - thankfully! If you want to find out what is going on in your local area you only practical choice is to find a station like COH in your comminity. During my communte to midtwon every day I could not wait till I got to the point in my trip home where I could pick up COH.

I am by no means a CC defender (nor an employee), *but* they have alot of other programming options they could put on 1400 or 98.1 that could involve alot of satellite an NO local programming. That's what's great about these stations, they don't even pretend to be an Atlanta station. They are local stations to Fayette, Coweta, and Heard counties and are programmed as such.

BTW I also miss hearing Scott Stephenson and Ronny Peterson on the air as well -both good friends and great personalities.

Here's to local comminity-based radio.

take care,
Joe

First off... I don't BELIEVE that kingcreole is one of our employees. They all swear it is not them... I THINK it's actually an ex-employee that we had nicknamed "Elvis"... but have no proof.

Second... thanks to several of you for realizing what it is we are trying to be... NOT ATLANTA RADIO STATIONS... we know our signal area... and we strive to be LOCAL radio stations for that area... we call it Mid-West Ga. We offer news for that area, traffic for that area (let's see you tune to one of the Atlanta stations and find out that traffic on Bullsboro is tied up due to an accident!), and even ADVERTISMENTS for that area! Local merchants can not afford to pay the going prices for Atlanta radio... but they can buy a lot of frequency on us for what one commercial in AMD goes for on a 100,000 blowtorch! We work for them at a price they can afford. We don't reach as many people... BUT THEY ARE ALL IN THEIR BUYING AREA! A retail store in LaGrange doesn't have to pay to reach people in Roswell... 100% of the people they reach on our stations are close enough to come to them... that's what LOCAL radio is all about for advertisers.
And you know what... we love it! Yes, we get a lot of turnover.. but none of our people are getting rich doing what they do. They make a decent/good living... but the ones that stick around do it because they LOVE small market radio and what we mean to our listeners. So do I. I have worked in, and been successful in, markets like Atlanta, Tampa, Dallas, and more. But I LOVE being in a smaller market and working closly with local businesses, charities, governments, and organizations to make the community I live in a better place to live.
And one last thing before I get off my soap box... I truly thank Clear Channel for letting me run these stations the right way. At no time have they told me not to be local... not to be live... not to serve our communities. In fact they have done everything I have asked to help me make the stations exactly what they needed to be an important part of mid-west Georgia. If most of the people on here that constantly rap CC knew what they were talking about, they would back off. How about if you were let go or left a company on bad terms you don't get to constantly get on here and run them down. Or if you do you have to use your REAL name and the manager you worked for gets to get on here and explain just why you are no longer there. Bet you most of the time it had NOTHING to do with money!
Ok... I'll take my medicine and calm down.
thanks
joe

You're missing the point. This is a radio discussion board, but you keep using it to plug this station. I would compare it to a restaurant owner calling a talk show and constantly trying to sneak in plugs for his/her establishment. Gets old. If we all did that, this board would be...dare I say it...even MORE boring than it already is! I promise you that the handful of people who read this board aren't going to make one iota of difference in your ratings, so please skip the plugs. If you want to post about the fact that there are a couple of stations around the Metro area that still do it the old fashion way, that's fine. But these blatant plugs for your station are annoying. If you really must talk up a specific station, be a little more creative/subtle/devious. That's the way these other guys do it. :)

>I am not a present or former employee of the stations. However I am a fan of small market, home town stations radio. There are some many people who listen to small market radio stations. Just like the guy who said he listened to COH every day going to and from his job in Mid-town. If you go out through the atlanta metro area, there are going to be many people who have atleast one local radio station on programmed on thier radio. Joe,keep what you are doing. You know what is going to work on your stations and whats not. Critics are going to be critics no matter what you do.
