Well, Ira Rosenblatt has done it [EDIT].
It's bad enough that they lost Joe Thomas, now they have some guy named Matt who is nothing more than a guy who plays pass the mic.
It seems that WCOJ now has something called Morning update....which has NO SUBSTANCE at all, compared to any previous incarnation of their AM show. THis guy matt comes on and he still plays CBS news at the top o' the hour, then he defaults to the traffic when appropriate, then he defaults yet again to radio PA, then he goes to some shortened news break most likely produced by Radio PA, and in between he plays spots. The only thing local and live about WCOJ's "morning update" is the presence of a human being in the air studio, because it certainly has nothing to do with the content of the show. This is such a deplorable shame what Ira Rosenblatt is doing to an already crappy radio station.
One thing I did notice on the positive though. WCOJ is no longer "For You and about You". They have gone back to their old standard tag line, Voice of Chester County. It seems that Kevin Jaiber was told to take his stupid "for you and about you" with him when he was tossed out on his kiester.
I wonder Why Ira doesn't just go to a fully automated...er syndicated morning show, why not just further ruin the station by having a board-op play spots and radio-pa and CBS news programs, why even allow this guy Matt to speak on-air, he doesn't add diddly squat....because he is not allowed to. I suspect that IRA wants something that is close to sounding like KYW. What an [EDIT-2] he is.
This all makes sense because Ira himself resides in Rhode Island, and knows ditto about Chester county or what chester county cares about.

It looks to me like they're getting ready to sell, stripping it down so it runs lean and mean. Maybe they'll get bought by a religious concern who will maintain the Swap Shop. WCOJ, Where Christians Order Junk. Works for me.

By the way, Only 2 edits this time, not too shabby, Captain.

Captain, I'd have to agree with Local, maybe it's time to let go and just forget about WCOJ for a while.
But, I think you're giving Ira a little too much credit. Honestly, I don't think he has much to do with the day-to-day running of the station. That's actually why they have a GM. Oh, and Ira doesn't reside in Rhode Island, he seems to actually live in his car.
As for the morning show, although I haven't heard it (I'm a little out of range these days) it doesn't seem that much different from when Joe Thomas was doing mornings (no offense Joe). With news, weather, traffic, spots, birthday announcements, etc. there's not much time for chit-chat.
But, it's good to hear "For You, About You" is gone. After being "The Voice of Chester County" for all those years, there was no need to get rid of it. Although, maybe they should try to actually be a "voice" for chester county i.e more real local news, interviews, etc.
But what do I know.
 
The WCOJ morning show is the same now as when Joe Thomas hosted? I don't think so.

Joe pumped much energy and talent into the program while the current "host" is an inexperienced stiff, sorry to say. He robotically runs through his liner cards, re-starting his cycle every 5-10 minutes. No one within the station (of whom is left) has bothered giving him the suggestion that he mix it up so as try not to sound like Ben Stein.
Hey Matt, the temperature is always "outside," so there is no need to say "outside" each time you give it.
 
As I said, I haven't even listened to the WCOJ morning show since Joe Thomas left, so maybe I'm out of line for even commenting. What I was trying to say was the morning show always seemed (at least from when I listened) too jammed up with the usual weather, traffic, news, spots, etc., to actually be anything of a morning show.
Granted Joe did a great job with the few moments he had in between all these "breaks." I was merely trying to point out the problems Captain has with the show didn't seem like anything different from the prior incarnation. Now, if the current guy sounds like he's putting people to sleep, then that's a different issue. Again, I haven't heard, so hard to comment or critic the new guy.
 
Still waiting for improvments to the morning show and for WCOJ "newscasts" to provide actual local news. Instead, they are still loaded with Radio PA stuff and generic statewide Jim Plummer stories. WCOJ's morning man is still too stiff and awkward shounding. They would do better to go with a syndicated program in the morning with local traffic and weather cut-ins.
 
Once again the major-market Philadelphia board is all a-bubble over a small power suburban station. How is it that this little station gets so much attention in such a large market??
 
Although Captain Happy is no longer with us, his thread lives on.

But now that this thread has come back to the top, I have to ask why JV and Elvis get the boot for their "flied lice" bit and Robert Henson continues his very similar attempts at ethnic humor. Imus is fired. Opie & Anthony get suspended from satellite radio (and Sharpton is trying to get them fired from terrestrial radio, too). Fire (insert name here) campaigns and advertiser boycotts are being organized against other hosts and Henson keeps on going.

Is it because nobody (except a few people on this board) is listening to WCOJ? Because this sort of thing is still OK in Chester County? Because the PC police only go after White male hosts? All of the above?

Meanwhile, no permanent host for the morning show (keep those tapes and resumes coming, folks).

It's too bad that Jaibur has now surfaced as Sales Manager at WNTP. (See Salem Press Release). What a loser. :( We'll see how much he can screw up WNTP, just like WCOJ.
