WCOL to begin digital multicasting

WCOL (92.3 FM) has begun broadcasting two channels in multicast digital — "high-definition" radio.

The channels include the country station’s primary signal and a secondary signal featuring a "new country" format.

The HD digital signals don’t require a subscription. They are available either through an HD radio receiver or online via streaming audio.

John Crenshaw, director of programming for Clear Channel Columbus and program director at WCOL, said he expects WNCI (97.9 FM), WBWR (105.7 FM) and WLZT (93.3 FM) to introduce HD multicasts during the next few months.

Is there an ounce of doubt that 93.3 will be the first station in the world to put year-round Christmas music on their multicast channel?

The die has been cast. Let's see how many non-CC stations follow suit and if the price of receivers come down now.

That is hilarious. And no, I can't see any doubt whatsoever. :-X
