WCRB/102.5, mono?

Just out of curiousity, has anybody noticed that WCRB is running in mono? It's unusual in the fact that WCRB was one of the FIRST Stereo stations in town (along with WGBH, WCOP-FM and WKOX-FM) since '62. I've never seen 102.5 WITHOUT that lovely pilot light lit up. Are they having problems with the STL or the Optimod? I wonder if their two SCA's are still up as well.

Them along with 94.5 and 98.5 must be on backups or something. Those are still in stereo, but 98.5 especially is a lot weaker than usual. It's been like that since they went off the air the other day.

See Boston Radio Watch--water caused them to use backup transmitters.

Yikes...if this was true Saturday night, it means that the Boston Symphony Orchestra broadcast may (I said MAY) have been in monaural sound. I wasn't home then, and if I were, this was one particular concert I would not have taken the trouble to listen to at home (three works I like, but the real point of live Symphony Orchestra concerts is to listen to music I've never heard before). The Boston Syphony Orchestra audience booklet frequently prints a blurb from station (mis)manager William Campbell stating that the broadcasts reach 500,000 listeners every Saturday night. That's right in the same league as Jay Severin claiming to be a Pulitzer Prize winner; but perhaps on a dark and stormy night (althought the moon made its first appearance in over a week, along with approaching Mars), there were in probably a few extra listeners on this occasion...a bad time to be having transmitter problems!

Re: WCRB/102.5, mono, and Mix 98.5

I noticed that 102.5 WCRB was running on mono on Friday on my ride home from work (around 4pm). Terrible for a station that should be on in stereo 24/7.

Also, when riding around today, I noticed that Mix 98.5 is running in mono, even though the stereo light is on. Heard "Hot Blooded" on Mix this afternoon and it sounded like crap. Wish they would fix these audio problems on the FM-128 stations.

Boston Radio Watch has it wrong.

From Boston Radio Watch:

WBUR and WODS (Oldies 103.3) do not share the master antenna.
WBUR uses a two bay Shively near the top of the tower below the
old Ch 5 antenna. (Where the master antenna IS located)
WODS uses a four bay Jampro below WBUR's.

The problem definatley appears in one of the systems of the master antenna.
(Combiner, Feedline, or antenna)

Transmitter readings (output, etc...) are all normal here at WBUR.
