WCRB Official ID

And at certain times of the day, there should be a "W242AA 96.3, Beacon Hill" in there.

FWIW, technically you don't need to identify the analog and the HD1 digital signal separately. "WCRB, WCRB-HD1, Lowell" is redundant. "WCRB-HD, Lowell" is sufficient. Although I confess the legal ID rules for HD Radio are clear as mud and my interpretation is just my interpretation.

Some stations just throw in "and broadcasting in HD Digital" after the calls & COL. Stations I work at do it usually "WXXX, WXXX HD, COL." And if it's multicast, then put a "1" after the HD. And the FCC couldn't have been more obtuse if they tried when it comes to the legal requirements of HD.

Of course, my favorite HD legal ID is one sung as a jingle - http://www.tophour.com/audio/Hartford%20CT/fm1029_2008-05_wdrc-fm_jlehmann.mp3

It should be "WCRB, WCRB-HD 1 Lowell, 89.5 WNCK Nantucket, WGBH-HD2 Boston".

Some purists (with help from the legal department), wanted stations to say something like:

"WCRB Boston, WCRB HD1 Boston,......"

Most programmers balked at saying the COL twice in the same sentence....and said "lets figureout a way not to make this new ID sound dumb!".

;-)

I don't think the "1" belongs after "WCRB-HD" because, AFAIK, WCRB has no HD-2 or HD-3 stream. Also, it is perfectly legal for WCRB, which is licensed to Lowell, to ID as "WCRB, WCRB-HD Lowell-Boston". My understanding is that, as long as Lowell is the first city mentioned, any other city or cities can legally follow.

My mistake - didn't know that they didn't have a HD-2. And yep, they can throw in Pismo Beach if they like, so long as Lowell is mentioned 1st.

Yeah, I've suggested to Bob Bittner that he ID WJIB as Cambridge-Boston San Francisco, Houston, Tulsa, Orlando, Toronto, Edmonton (all the ones after Boston being the North American cities I can think of that have 50 kW AM 740s).
