Got this press release emailed to me earlier today:

ALEC CALLENDER JOINS WCRN AM 830 TEAM AS NEWS DIRECTOR

Part of Strategic Steps Taken to Ensure WCRN is Powerhouse Radio

Talk Station of New England….The Switch Is On!

Worcester, MA. Hank Stolz, Program Director of WCRN AM 830 and host of weekday program, The Hank Stolz Experience airing 2—6:00p.m. is pleased to announce that as of Monday December 3, 2007 Alec Callender has joined the WCRN family as News Director. Over the last several years Callendar has earned a reputation as a solid reporter/anchor in Central MA. He brings to WCRN a positive and professional attitude along with a long list of contacts. Callendar who made the switch from WTAG radio, jumped right into his responsibilities and was well received by the WCRN team, which includes talk show veteran Peter Blute who hosts The Peter Blute Show, weekdays 6—10:00a.m., Chris Thompson, WCRN’s General Sales Manager, as well as program engineers, Kerry Mathieson and Mike Roberts and the entire sales and marketing team.

As News Director of WCRN, Callender’s hire continues to be part of a series of strategic steps taken by the Carberry’s owners of Carter Broadcasting and parent to WCRN AM 830, to continue to offer compelling radio talk news and programs. It also demonstrates how committed Carter Broadcasting is not just to the success of the station but in super-serving WCRN’s listening audience. In addition, with its 50,000 watts of power WCRN reaches from Boston to the Berkshires, Rhode Island to New Hampshire and beyond guaranteeing that the programs can be heard to a wide audience base. These steps allow WCRN to continue to compete and gain momentum as the top radio talk station in New England. It is also evident that WCRN’s audience wants more local news and more original reporting. Hank Stolz states, “With Alec joining the WCRN team he can concentrate on news stories, breaking news, or aiding in storm coverage among other things.” Stolz continues, “For example, on his first day Monday, Alec was able to report from the remembrance ceremony of the six Worcester fallen firemen as they were being commemorated. He hit the ground running and contributed compelling news coverage at this important event. I look forward to his positive energy and helping us achieve our goals at WCRN.”

Callendar states, I am thrilled to be part of the veteran talk radio team of WCRN. I look forward to providing the additional news presence to WCRN that will ensure we are the New England powerhouse station. It also feels good to be riding the wave as WCRN continues to grow as a local radio talk station. I am glad to have made that switch!”
