WCRN-AM No Longer carrying the Red Sox?

I was listening to WCRN this morning and there was no mention of carrying the Red Sox again this year. Nothing on the web site either about the Sox (although it is rarely updated in a timely manner) so I guess we'll find out for sure this afternoon.

I won't be happy if they are no longer an affiliate. I usually listen more to the radio broadcasts than TV and WEEI-FM has some spotty coverage when driving around greater Worcester. As for WVEI-AM 1440, forget about it if you're outside the city limits after dark trying to listen.

too many affiliates in the greater boston area? with wboq weei fm maybe they feel thats enough plus the cape and western mass. and wmrc in the milford area

WBOQ is unlistenable in CMass, same with Milford's WMRC except in southern portions of the area and after dark, forget it. And as I mentioned in my earlier post, WEEI-FM has soem spotty areas and WVEI-AM is hosed after dark outside the city limits.

davect,
Do you know if the Red Sox chose not to re-up with WCRN or did WCRN not like the financials.

Figured as much; the fill in for Graham is still on 830 now.By the way regarding streaming, for those at work etc. BostonInno incorrectly says you can hear Sox games via the WEEI app.

Nope. As the WEEI site puts it they cannot stream games due to MLB regulations. Going to WEEI on the TuneIn app
will also give you substitute programming (college hoop talk). BUT if you have Sirius or XM--reg subscription AND a few bucks more for "internet subscription" you can get your fave team's games on either the siriusxm site or the Sirius/XM app for your smartphone. Here on my PC I went to the former (and I do have an XM/XM Int. sub.) and found I could get the
WEEI Red Sox network feed on XM Internet channel 843.

I don't know. It was an odd arrangement. WCRN basically just simulcast WVEI's broadcast anyway, complete with WVEI local breaks.

When I read that MLB games can't be simulcast on the internets, I checked to see if the RS games in Spanish WEERE available on WUFC-AM 1510's website. They were carrying YSR's feed. Did anybody out there with access to a radio check to see if WUFC's over-the-air signal is broadcast beisbol?

via the tunein app at least for today espn is carrying the Red Sox game so if you have a smartphone or tablet download the app and at least you can get todays game!!

Just tuned to 1510...WUFC is doing local (I think) sports talk in English. Thought all games will be done in Spanish there...? (Boston Radio Watch said they were supp. to be carrying Sox in Spanish starting with today's game... but...)

WCRN isn't good radio any more. Too many paid for programming. The weekends are awful. Stutterin Hank is even having a tougher times lately.

As much as I love the fact that WCRN has local ownership, I have to agree that they are a tough listen lately.

When Michael Graham left for Atlanta, they brought Drew Mortgage back 5-days a week at Noon and run the Sam Sorbo show from 1 - 3 p.m. Both unlistenable, IMHO, but Douglas Rowan is paying for his time who helps pay the bills for the station.

I still enjoy listening to Hank Stolz and Sherman Whitman but there seems to be no continuity with Sherman's local news breaks. There are some half-hours that they skip right over the local news.

And speaking of news, in PM drive they have a promo that states (I'm paraphrasing because I can't recall it specifically), "Driving you home with Howie Carr on WCRN - News, Weather and Traffic ". However you very rarely get local news, weather, and traffic reports.

And the website is never updated in a timely fashion. Of course, weekend shows come and go so frequently it would be hard to keep it up-to-date.
