WCRN AND Barry Armstrongs Money Matters

I listen to Armstrongs radio show on WBIX and heard the cohost Scotty Mccall say Money Matters is picking up a new local affiliate. Rumor has is that WCRN will be airing them again. Does anyone know if this is true? I thought WCRN was done....Armstrongs show is gaining traction, could he save 830AM if the rumor is true?

At this point, if it is WCRN, I don't think it would hurt them but I'm not sure it would necessarily "save" 830AM. On a strong signal like WCRN, having Barry Armstrong's show back on would do more for Money Matters than the station itself.

If the rumor is true, I would revamp the schedule as follows:

5 - 9 a.m. Peter Blute (Doesn't make sense to give WTAG the first hour as Worcester's only local option)
9 - 11 a.m. Money Matters with Barry Armstrong
11 - Noon Drew Mortgage Show (Unfortunately, I don't think they would ever get rid of this one because it helps pay the bills)
Noon - 3 p.m. Hank Stolz
3 - 7 p.m. Howie Carr

BTW, I heard a promo this morning on WCRN by Rusty Humphries asking folks to please advertise on this station to keep shows like his on the air. I didn't know they even carried the show.

How can you "SAVE" a station where the PD leaves his radio show at 2:30 every day (when it ends at 3) to go to tape his TV show and run other errands. If you listen most days from 2:30 - 3pm Hank is on rerun mode. -- oh and David, Peter won't get up for 5.. (he's been asked) so likely it will be Hank solo 5-6 if we do that.

So if it's Hank solo from 5 - 6, then your confirming that Money Matters is indeed coming back from 9 - 11? Peter Blute did mention this morning that changes were coming after the 1st of the year at WCRN.

Does it strike anyone as odd that, in these days when financial institutions of all types are talking about their own dire financial conditions, and reaching out their open hands for bailouts, Armstrong is about to significantly increase his operating expenses by buying time on WCRN? Remember, Armstrong also buys time on WBIX, which puts a middling signal into Worcester (better than nearly all of the Boston-licensed AMs). And he owns WESO, which now carries his program and is audible in Worcester. And WBIX is the station whose former owner (or former about-to-be-owner) is serving 11 years in prison for perpetrating a Ponzi scheme similar to Bernie Madoff's (though on a smaller, but still very significant scale). So what gives? Are the Carberry's in need of Armstrong's services and are paying for them in tradeouts? Or is it something nefarious? Remember, Madoff boasted of spectacular returns, which, because they were phony, he could do--until his house of cards collapsed. To Armstrong's credit, I have never heard him boast about any returns he has gotten for his clients. And I enjoy listening to his show, which I think, by and large, provides decent advice. But this is a time to be circumspect and I'm wondering if adding WCRN to the network might not be a red flag.

Interesting! Money Matters is absolutely going to WCRN on the 12 of January. Armstrong was on vaca over the holidays but Mccall his cohost announced this on the air on Monday and Tuesdays program. Hard to know these days who to trust but he does seem pretty straight-forward and doesn't seem to pander to the audience when it comes to giving his opinions.

Now that it has been "officially" announced by co-host Scotty McCall, maybe WCRiNsider will chime in and let us know what the new weekday schedule will be. Will they just chop off 1 hour of the Peter Blute show or add an hour earlier at 5?

It's ironic but I remember when Hank Stolz jumped to WCRN he said one of the main reasons was their commitment to local programming over syndication. Now there is more syndicated programming than ever.

It's official; I heard a promo this morning following the 6:30 news break for Money Matters return to WCRN using the theme music from Welcome Back Kotter weekdays from 9 to 11 a.m.

So it looks like their morning schedule that is confirmed so far will be:

5 to 6 a.m. Wake Up Worcester with Hank Stolz
6 to 9 a.m. Peter Blute Show
9 to 11 a.m. Money Matters

Not sure what happens to Laura Ingraham's show currently cleared live from 10 - Noon or everyone's favorite, the Drew Mortgage show. LOL

I suspect that they'll move the Drew Mortage Show to 11 a.m. to Noon. If so, will they keep Noon to 3 local or take the syndicated route?
