Earlier this year, WCRN had already dumped their local news staff in favor of reports being supplied by Metro Networks. And for the past 2 mornings, WCRN has been running infomercials from 5 to 6 a.m. Add this to the daily Drew Mortgage Infomercial at Noon and could this be a sign that the financial position of WCRN is tenuous at best? Or is this just a reflection on their grandiose plans being “hit” by the soft economy along with the state of AM radio in general.
In fairness, they have added some local content on Saturday afternoons (unless preempted by the Red Sox) but wouldn’t it make more sense to add the local content on the weekdays instead. Place the infomercials on Saturday and Sunday while you try to grow the station with a strong local weekday lineup. IMHO, this would be a win-win for the station because infomercials may pay the bills but most listeners tune them out immediately.
Lastly, I wonder how long their new website will be under construction.
