WCRN Thoughts

Poor Peter...4 hours of CRYING on the air that someone broke into his car this morning and stole his GPS unit while he was on the air from the WCRN parking lot. Great talk radio.... They just moved into this 'brand new studio' downtown -- makes me want to go Downtown now... not to mention makes the station sound like they moved into the Ghetto.... His car never got broken into in Main South....

PS: Don't feed the pigeons

I think what Peter needs is for Mrs. Blute to submit 6 Arbitron diaries to bump up his ratings :D...

I swear if it were possible to have negative ratings he would have a -5 because HE doesn't even listen to his show. He constantly is talking over his guests and doesn't listen to what they say.

Example:
(Guest:) Thanks Peter the event will be this weekend from 10-2 on Saturday and Sunday at the DCU Center.
(Peter:) Ok great sounds like a good time so what time is the event and where will it be?

The legendary Bob and Ray did a hilarious bit about that at least 20 years ago. It's one of their classics. I think I actually heard Bob and Ray improvise the prototype for that bit on NBC Radio's weekend Monitor show 50 or more years ago. Back in those days, somebody distributed celebrity interviews on the old 16-in. electrical-transcription disks. On one side was the complete interview with a generic host asking the questions and the celebrity answering them. On the flip side of the ET was a version that included only the celebrity's answers with enough dead air between answers for a local host to ask the questions, which were provided on paper as a script. With some practice a good announcer could make it sound as if the celeb was in the local studio being interviewed by a personality from the local station. Well, Monitor used the dead-air-between-answers version and the host and his questions got out of sync with the answers. Each question was asked immediately _after_ the recorded celebrity voice had answered it. In the next half hour of Monitor was a Bob and Ray segment in which they mimic'd the very funny goof-up from the previous half hour. In the Bob and Ray version, however, the host and the celebrity were supposed to be live together in the studio. Each time the host followed an answer with the question that had just been answered, the celebrity (actually, I think Bob and Ray made him not a celeb but an expert on some arcane subject) became increasingly agitated by the fact that the self-absorbed interviewer hadn't heard a word the guest had said. At the end, you could sense that the interviewer and guest were almost ready to come to blows. Very funny!

If he left the thing in plain sight, it serves him right. You always are supposed to lock those things in your glove box or carry the thing on you. I know when I rented a Trailblazer at the Philly train station last year they reminded me to lock the GPS in the glove box or keep it on my person. I carried it with me when I went into the mall and I kept it hidden in my hotel room.

Meanwhile on the note of stolen GPS units, last Christmas, my friend PB's got stolen out of his glove box in downtown Southington, CT and they didn't even break a window to get into his locked car, which means it had to have been someone he knew. Furthermore Southington is a small suburban town with not much in the way of crime.

I don't listen much to WCRN but I have heard the early afternoon show that is hosted by a woman who. I believe, writes for the Worcester Telegram. That plus the Saturday AM leased-time environmental program (and maybe the execrable leased-time Drew Mortgage program, which is largely apolitical) are just about the only programs on WCRN that don't hew to the neocon line.

Airscan is the afternoon board op for Howie Carr on WCRN -- Tony - why don't you give us the TRUTH about TRUE TALK.... How is Hank treating you now...since you're the only one left. Are you even getting paid on time? or do you still have to keep asking for weeks at a time wondering if your next check will ever arrive? I don't know what's worse... Having a paycheck bounce, or not getting one at all.

I would not say Hank is a neocon, He tends to be more of a democrate then a republican and much more liberal then conservative.

Over all I would say that Hank is a good guy who wants to see the station do good things, I have only met him a few times and he does come across that he cares (unlike Peter) but they wont let him just have a show! How can he do anything if every few weeks he is in a new time slot?

I think the station worked when Hank followed Peter from 9-noon.

Is the rumor that someone is in talks with WTAG to jump ship? Could it be that Dianne is moving over? Is hank ready to admit defeat and go back to a steady paycheck with a more so steady schedule? Is Upton Bell going back to TAG so he can have what CRN will not give him… (His own show again?)

I agree that Hank Stolz should go back to a late morning show (and it would counter the syndicated programming on WTAG). A live & local show following Peter would probably gain traction for WCRN.

As for any rumors about Dianne Williamson or Upton Bell in negotiations with WTAG about jumping ship; where would they put them? I heard Glen Beck & Rush Limbaugh still do very well for WTAG. And they recently signed Jordan Levy to a long term contract.

And if my memory serves me correct, the parting between WTAG and Upton Bell was not very amicable although I'm not sure if it pre-dates the Clear Channel ownership.

Not if their programming stinks! It's not the economy's fault that WCRN is lame.

I am quite curious about the Insider...This thread has gone beyond what is normal radio discussion but has become very personal to you...It sounds like you've been done wrong by WCRN...why don't you give us the Truth about True talk...Are you a Sales Person that hasn't got their commission yet? Payroll Check? Hey Insider, if that's the case you need to to get out? Or are you the Matt that was let go because he was drunk when he went over the air one morning...no that isn't true, because Mat is here under another name...Hey guys, if you're bitter, move on and find another radio station to work for...or if you were fired, I wouldn't use WCRN as a reference because WCRN knows who is posting here..you may even find your desk cleaned out soon.

Hey Kurtbag,
Sorry you're having a bad day. If it is true that Matt was fired for being drunk on the air ... I guess you were sleeping in last Saturday morning at 8am when your Dining Out Celebrity Superstar VIP On Air Hosts were boozing it up hardcore in the studio on the air. The show is hard to listen to as it is, but when they are under the influence it is even more obnoxious.

PS: A paycheck would be nice once in a while.

Wow, at last WCRN has become interesting!! Well, this thread, anyway--not the station.

They were interesting last night when they went off the air for almost 45 min!

They were making up for it last night by playing 3 things at once. CBS News, IRN-USA News & Local Spots all at the same time then into about 7 more minutes of spots and cutting into Jerry Doyle around 10 past.

Does anyone know if Dianne Williamson was canned today?

Did she leave for WTAG like it was rumored?

Did Hank push her out for more airtime?

maybe she is the Wcrn insider and dirtbag made her clear out her desk?

I was actually wondering on the whereabouts of Dianne Williamson, too. Hank was covering her 1 p.m. show on Friday and again on Monday with no mention of whether she was off and would be returning.

As for the rumour, I still don't know where WTAG would put her on their weekday schedule unless they dropped the syndicated Glen Beck or Rush Limbaugh which I highly doubt.
