Apparently five master control operators and two graphic artists got the axe; similar reductions are happening at other Gannett stations around the country.
I'm sorry to hear, more people with decent paying jobs are out of work.

By the way, I do believe the proper terms would be, "positions eliminated" or simply "laid off."
The word "fired" suggests these people were not capable of doing their jobs.
In the big picture, computers are taking over jobs in every industry throughout the country.
Here is one way to look at it, if Bill Gates were never born, millions would still have a job.
