WCSS AM 1490 Amsterdam

Got a listen to it this past week passing though the area. Friday and Saturday.

It seems like they have taken a "most music" approach. Not a great thing on AM if you ask me. Lots of cold seques, not the tightest automation.

Is something decent and local going on in the morning? It would seem something of value could really happen with this station. How are they paying the bills.

They could certainly take a WENT approach at least.

Anyone know whats up? I have special place for the station, I used to listen to it as a kid quite a bit. I have been rooting for this place to make something of a comeback.

I actually started working there when I was 15. I would go up with my father who was a manager there at the time. I would run the board on Saturday morning and do some air shifts here and there as well as football games. That was where I cut my teeth in this business so to speak. I miss being there sometimes, some good memories. I'm not sure who is on the air there anymore and what there programming approach is but that station has potential to do better.

I believe it is owned by Pamal, correct me if I'm wrong. If it is sources have said that Morrell would like to get rid of the station.

I think Pamal has a LMA arrangement at one time... then the place went off the air.

I know cash flow is probably an issue, but the trick is to try and get something decent in place build a following. "For the Good Times" followed by Matchbox 20 doesn't really seem to be something I would do. Plus there are a lot of cold segues which a killers to an AM. They could do more with it even on the cheap. My thoughts....

But yeah, the place is legendary. Rugged Rams Football and what not. It has a future if they want it to happen.

I miss Lloyd Smith. Sure he was corny, but he was a tradition. My brothers and sisters and I grew up with him.

Too bad Bob Cudmore went to the other Amsterdam station 1570 AM. He'd be perfect for mornings there.

The live show being done right now in the mornings is awful. Total non-professionals. It's sad.

Since Cudmore is on the other station, WCSS needs someone good for mornings. Ted Flint or Bobby O'Brien, maybe. They were both very entertaining, and they both know how to do radio correctly.
