WCSZ HAS FLIPPED?

As of 2:36PM WCSZ AM 1070 is Oldies....when did the change happen? Hats off to them for filling a void...hey, it's AM, but better than nothing. Finally something decent on AM besides 1510.

Sounds like the Jones "Good Time Oldies" Format. I like that network, good personalities, including Ted "the bear" Richards from here in SC.

What they should do, is recreate their old Top-40 days. I remember it well in the very late 60s, before the urban switch. "50,000 watts WHYZ Greenville". That's what oldies is now. Can't hurt. They most likely won't ever have more than a 1.5 tops.

They are calling themselves "Good Time Oldies 1070." I wonder if they will personalize it more...all I hear is "The oldies station" when they promote themselves. I hope they do well.

Their 50,000 watt signal doesn't do a very good job of getting into Spartanburg though. Why do they direct their signal south?

To protect 1070 WFLI in Chattanooga, TN however they could take field strength readings and likely go non directional daytime. One thing I've noticed is if an AM dies, you can't hardly ever bring it back but if one is still doing OK, it can be maintained and even built some...ala WFBC now WYRD. I can't see Oldies on 10-70 lasting long..primarily because it won't be sold well. If I were CC, I'd take 96.7 oldies but here again, if you don't have anyone who can sell it, it won't last.

I can't see it going ND unless they drop some power. It hard to understand how the FCC would allow 2 50kw stations that close on the same frequency. Oh wait I forgot what I just typed.

My guess is that FM103.3 killed 1070 off as Af. Amer. Gospel...why would you listen to an AM satellite station like that when you can hear a local-based one on FM with a better signal?? I think if they work on personalizing it and getting the word out, Oldies 1070 will be at least a moderate success.

And I feel that also 'La Brava 1440' WGVL's days are numbered...can't see them keeping up with WOLI much longer. I think we could use something different there. Music of Your Life anyone? Maybe Stardust??

The worst ground conductivity in the US exists between Greenville and Chattanooga. I've run a study on my AM search program and put in the actual conductivity, it works. Close but it works. Also, WFLI in Chattanooga operates directional days...toward Greenville. It and WAPI in Birmingham are also on the same 1070 channel.
