WCTC 1450 flips to oldies

nd2023

Banned
1450 WCTC New Brunswick, NJ flipped from talk to oldies yesterday. If this happened at this time last year, would WCBS-FM have not flipped back to oldies?

A small AM station that only covers a tiny fraction of the entire market would have had zero impact on a full power FM station with a heritage brand name that covers almost the whole market.

Is there much overlap in the coverage areas of WMTR and WCTC? For a while WMTR could also be heard on 1170 AM from Central NJ.

I wonder why they flipped from talk back to (satellite) music to begin with. WCTC was pretty much the only talk station for central New Jersey (NJ 101.5 notwithstanding). :-\

Are the WCTC DJs Local or from Satellite ?

The WCTC DJs are all locals and sometimes overlap with Magic 98.3 (WMGQ), the station they share a building with.

My bet is they switched to oldies because NJ 101.5 is a more popular talk station in Jersey and the two can't even begin to compete when it comes to popularity. They are mostly known within central Jersey, where oldies is a better idea to begin with.

In this case, going dark is a better idea.

WMTR AND WCTC fired local staff except for their morning shows. They are both GOOD TIMES OLDIES-no fifties on 1250 anymore----blame it on the BUSH economy!!!"ctc should have gone country.WCBS-fm has nothing to fear!!!!Also 'mtr is playing tons more music now and that's good!!!!!

WCTC DJ's are NOT local. Outside of Jack Ellery's morning show, 'CTC is airing "Good Time Oldies," a Jones Radio Network satellite format. All of the DJs are doing their shows out of Denver, I believe. Not even close to local.

I remember listening-- sometimes with difficulty!-- to WCTC for school closing announcements. I'm pretty sure it was Jack Ellery behind the mike then, and by then I mean the mid and late 1970's.

I have not listened in a long time, having moved away, but my parents kept the studio phone number on their bulletin board. I'm assuming that they won't be using it any more.

I worked at WMGQ (their sister station) for a little bit in 06, and I met a few of the WCTC DJs as well. They were local back then. I don't know about now, since I haven't kept in touch.

doubt, doubt, doubt - if WCTC (as well as WMTR) are gonna be using the "Good Time Oldies" format, it's probably gonna be like an 800 number or something...I remember at one point a few years ago hearing it out of Indianapolis (thank goodness for Internet streaming!) and the DJ (Gary Clark) gave out an 800 number, but...who knows??

It is an 800 number. The "Good Time Oldies" format is the only full-time oldies station for Charlotte, NC at 106.1 FM, and when I heard it (outside of the local morning show) requests and comments were to be called in using the network's 800 number. The official website of "Good Time Oldies" is http://www.theoldies.net/ although it is an extremely bare and uninformative website.

I think the format isn't even called "Good Time Oldies" anymore, but rather "Great Hit Radio," according to the website.

No...Its breaking the format as a Oldies Station...

Formats all across the board have talk in the morning and since WCTC started out as a talk station, I don't see a reason for them to break tradition.

Looks like the Patriots Broadcasts will continue. I was wondering would that continue when the flip was a rumor.
