wctc changing

after a 0.8 in their ratings wctc-am is finally changing. they put maggie glynm mid days and alan david stein in the afternoon. they gott rid of steve and julith. i hope they can do better. i think this station focus on too old they should aim towards 18-48 not 50plus. also check out their new website www.wctcam.com it much better with actual use.

Hew blue...you're kidding right? The only AM an 18 year old knows is the time of day. Given, CTC is a heritage station with a proud history. But what do you do with a 1kw graveyard frequency station that sits in the shadows of Market #1 giants like ABC,CBS,FAN,INS,OR? You gotta superserve the locals that are already listening to AM..and that's 45+.

Will IBOC change that, and make AM attractive to young adults? Time will tell, but time is running out.

WCTC's main competition is New Jersey 101.5.

One benefit of being in the shadow of New York is that WCTC does not have to rely on right-wing screechers like 710 and 770 do.

WCTC will never make it as a talk station, especially in the face of 101.5. It's like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. The trouble began when they went talk years ago...the lame idea of a then-GM from Harvard Business School. I have two suggestions, go back to an adult music format with sensaible local jocks, local news, lost pet announcements, comminity bulletin board etc. In other words real local radio.
Suggestion two...blow it up and simulcast WMTR's oldies format to make up for geography lost when they leased am 1170 to the Indians.

In other words, have WCTC as it was in the 60's. Those days are over, man.

Simulcasting WMTR is out of the question. WCTC is the co-flagship for Rutgers football and men's basketball. WCTC is also the flagship for Rutgers women's basketball and Somerset Patriots baseball. You think Rutgers would stand idly by and lose the station that carried the Scarlet Knights through thick and thin?

Also, AM 1170 was not leased "to the Indians". It was leased to EBC Radio, a South Asian broadcaster that needed a dial spot when AM 1680 moved to South Jersey.

Why can't Rutgers University sports be heard on the Rutgers University radio station (WRSU-FM)? Isn't that how most other colleges broadcast their games? On the radio stations from the respective colleges?

There's no reason they couldn't simulcast WMTR and still run Rutgers sports only on CTC. Their studio wouldn't disappear, just that the main programming would come from somewhere else. A board-op at the CTC end would break and rejoin the simulcast. Maybe they could even broadcast the games over WMTR also.

For an example of an AM trying to get 18-35s, check out WCHE 1520 out of West Chester, PA.
It's a day timer, but is also starting to use the internet to stream its modern rock format to go along with its morning show, The Paranormal Cafe and The-Dixon on Fridays, Art the Builder on Saturdays, and other odd-ball local programming.

WRSU already does carry Rutgers sports, even more than WCTC does. It may not be the same commentary, but it's there.

Hi, this is Dan Mulcahey, Promotions Director of WRSU-FM. We do carry all Rutgers Football, Basketball, Baseball, Soccer games at 88.7 FM with our 1350 kw ERP transmitter out of Rt.1. Can be heard north to Watchung Mountains, East to Brooklyn, South to roughly Asbury Park but further on some days. Our guys do a great, COMMERCIAL-FREE job and some have gone on to WFAN. Also call-in show is pretty popular afterward. I highly encourage everyone to tune in.

1350 Kw?? With that much power, you'd be heard in Boston and Washington!! :)
I am sure you meant 1350 Watts! And you guys do get out well with that ERP!

That would be watts, lol. Our only problem is the transmitter is only 135 feet above average terrain.

I have seen the stick, on the right as you go north on US 1 by Cook College's entrance. I used to hear you loud and clear as an undergrad in Ewing, and a buddy of mine (class of '84) was thrilled to be able to hear you in Howell, after I got on the roof and reoriented his antenna ;) Good clear signal, no hiss in the stereo.

You would have to thank our longtime CE and alumni, Dan Schleck, for that one. Still operating on original dual 1974 Harris units with minimal/no processing for nice dynamic range. Also online wrsu.org
