WCTC morning host/PD departs

After almost two months of Alan David Stein filling in, it has been announced that Baron's permanent replacement will be a nationally syndicated show, albeit one featuring two WCTC alumni. This Morning with Gordon Deal will air in the 6-9 AM slot starting this coming Monday, September 23rd. Deal and his news anchor Jennifer Kushinka both worked for the New Brunswick station early in their careers. Racquel Williams will also continue to provide local news. Nonetheless, this ends a long tradition of locally-originated morning shows.

At one time this was the flagship of Greater Media, back when the corporate office was in East Brunswick. A lot of famous alumni, including Dave Marash and Bruce Williams. But it's 1000 watts, and most of those AM stations around NJ have gone away. This one was the healthiest, and now it's barely hanging on.

Switching from talk to "Good Time Oldies" and then back to talk a few years later was the beginning of the end of WCTC. I don't know what they were thinking when they did that. Yes, I know this was during the Great Recession and they had to cut costs, but they could've just gone to more syndicated talk programming like they are now.
