WCTQ

Maverick was not on this morning on Clear Channel's Sarasota country music station - WCTQ. Did't he pull pretty decent numbers in that time slot???

you have to wonder who is makiing the decisions over there........bring back big jim davis......

I dont think big Jim would come back. Last I heard, he had a pretty good gig in Vero Beach. He's one of the nicest guys in radio and a veritable living history of top 40 radio having worked at some of the biggest flamethrowers in top 40 AM.

I love Big Jim Davis. He broke me into Talk Radio. ;D

Yes I'm gone....
Hello Everyone... Just wanted to drop a quick note to all,
to say "Thank You"... After 16 years (I started as an intern back in 1990)... I have left 106.5 CTQ...

The GM told me on Friday... they were going to take CTQ, in a different direction.

I had a great run, had alot of fun... Established an amazing relationship with thousands of listeners, over the last 16 years... In fact, one quick story, I had a family come up to me at a remote, just last week... Their 10 year old daughter, wanted me to sign an old picture of me, with a baby I was holding at a remote.... The photo, was actually of me holding this same 10 year old, when she was just a couple of months old.... Her parents were listeners of mine and introduced me to their new baby. That 10 year old, has grown up.. listening to me.... WOW..... That just floored me. Amazing and Special.

It was a great run and I am now VERY excited about... the next part of my professinal career. I truly look at this as a very positive opportunity and can't wait for, what's next.

I hope to stay in the Sarasota & Bradenton (Tampa, Ft. Myers) area and continue (and build upon) all the great relationships that I have cultvated over the years, with all the great listeners, clients, charitable organizatons and friends that reside in our area....

Thank you again to everyone who has been a supporter of mine over the years. I owe you all, so much. My success in Sarasota & Bradenton, with both the morning show and the afternoon show on CTQ (#1 shows in both time slots, at least once, P 25-54). Usually in 2nd place in AM Drive (couple of 3rd's).... And that's all due to the audience... I'll keep you posted on what's next, for me. I love radio and can't wait to be back on the air.

Currently you can see me on Channel 20, if you have Comcast Cable. I host a High School Sports and Educational Show... "Game On". It's on at various days & times.

ps- I loved -----Big Jim Davis, Dave McClure and Sherri Carlson.... all great GM's.

Thanks to all
Maverick

Avoid 1220 at all costs. Good luck, Mav.

Good luck Maverick!

Now... ones gotta wonder what the heck is going on 'round here. People with 15-20 years of service getting let go... that sucks... ok, so what if they really are taking CTQ "in a different direction". I know CC's got some major overlap with the country format in Sarasota/Bradenton due to WFUS, WIKX, and even WCKT; but 106.5 CTQ is a strong LOCAL performer is it not???? Although I can't imagine they'd drop the country on CTQ before Kix92.9, what would they be possibly shifting towards.... the "movin" format as 106-5 The Party with Whoopi?? You know they won't do it in Tampa because of Olivia Fox and 95.7 The Beat.

Well done Maverick.

We have never met. Unless you are inmate #25874759. Just kidding....What you wrote about the 10 year old girl and her family is what I think radio is all about and what is wrong with radio today. Sometimes it is amazing what people take away from meeting someone one time and how long they hold onto it. I think that is part of what is wrong with radio today. Everyone is so worried about covering their ass and keeping a job that they forget about the listener. I know that it is all about making money. It is a business. But you know what, it was a business many years ago when I was that 10 year old listening to radio in Cincinnati. I grew up listening to Mark Sebastian on Q102. The knock off of WKRP in Cincinnati. And now after 12 years in the market I am in the same building as him on US103.5. (via Q105 Country and Outlaw 92.5). Who would have thunk. I think the air personalities of today do not understand how important the listener is to what we do today. Today it is who can I step on and how fast instead of just doing what you love to do and letting it all fall into place. Nice job and well written here...this is the first time in many years of reading that I have every replied but thought what you wrote was on the money.

Good luck to you today and in the future.......

Wow! 16 years! That means you even survived the Ron Kight/Asterisk 'CTQ era. THAT'S really saying something :)

Good luck in the search.

CTQ isn't going to be switching from country anytime soon. If that was the case, don't you think they'd fire everybody, not just Maverick?

Even though there is a huge CC country overlap south of Tampa, they all make decent money for their respective communities. Although I still say that CC should swap the frequency of Kix Country 92.9 with Beach 98.9 which would still give Charlotte county its country station, and give the rest of the suncoast the unique AAA format of the Beach on that huge 100,000 watt signal.

Having worked with Maverick for many of those 16 years, I can't say I'm surprised he's gone... but I still feel bad for him.
The one thing on here that we all seem to agree on is that Big Jim Davis is THE BEST! I'm proud to have worked side-by-side with him during his entire time in Sarasota and even more proud to still call him my friend and mentor.

I've got a lot of awesome memories from those Sarasota days. But I'm in a much larger and better market now, so...

Radio Ranch, who are you?

Oh, hello Wes. Hope all is well for you in.. is it Texas? Mark still loves to tell the story of how you fired him, "How do you like them apples?"

I was in Texas, but I'm in Memphis now. Yeah... that was one of the best ways ever to fire someone. I still like to use it from time to time!

Memphis? No kidding Wes? I guess now there were two ex CC Sarasota employees in Memphis. I say "were" since I just escaped that ghetto last month! You in radio there?

So where IS Rick Marino these days ???

Walt - Bradenton

Walt, e-mail me... [email protected]

Wes, I was actually in the Entercom building about a month ago. Tried to get a WWTQ sticker from Jerry Dean. He didn't have one but said he'd drop one in the mail for me. Still waiting....
