WCUL is on the air

Well, WCUL is on the air, It is called 98.9 Liberty, playing whatever you want. I had a feeling it was going to be a JACK like station. This one is playing everything from the 60's through today. Will this effect other stations, I believe so. Oldies 100.3-107.3 might end up splitting up to just one station. The Planet will get a small drop in ratings. As for Mix 103.7, this could be the nail in the coffin for this version of 103.7, look for a change back to Hot AC by second quarter next year. I think that both alternative stations will take a hit if Liberty starts playing The Cure and other bands that are alienated by the alternative crop because of mainstream alt tastes which do not include deep 80's cuts. Look for I hope a STRONG push by MainLine with this new station, that way they can get into getting things done here ratings wise. This could be a top 10 station, if people get hooked on it.

I have been listening all day long and they have not played one song from "today". Most Bob,Jack etc formats play some current music.

All things in good time my friend, with over a thousand songs and no repeats, this is going to be great. I have to admit to be doing the crab dance when Sweet Child O Mine was being played LOL. That and it's been a while since I have heard a station play Cars by Gary Neuman. I said a while back that we were due for a Jack, it was a question of where it was going to land.

Can you say rest in peace Y101....I think this is the nail in the coffin if they add to the 80's alt area. They will end up going FM talk, as Liberty gets them off the air.

No currents, but I do think that Liberty will hurt Oldies' younger demo a little bit...I would love to hear some 80's alt, but I can't complain...I'm going to roll tape when I get home tonight...I'll try to contribute something to tophour.net soon.

As for Y-101 going bye-bye...nah. The music is too old on Liberty to be messing with anything but Y's older listers...

Come to think of it, 98.9 sounds like B-103 about 4 years ago

This will get interesting...you will soon see!
______________
If a DJ talks into a microphone, and no one's there to listen to him, does he make a noise?

Brian at Toppy would like that. I'm curious how they sound...

They have played Black Eyed Peas "Where's the Love", Alanis "You Oughta Know"
and now Def Leppard "Pour Some Sugar On Me" (a song that RIC radio has forgotten)and Eve 6 "Here's to the Night" (another RIC forgotten)

SO there is some 80's rock mixed with today

WE WILL SOON SEE !!!!!!!
Edited by vaboi83 on 09/07/05 12:49 AM.

Vaboi, they have been playing some really good stuff for the last 7 hours that I have been listening to it. Some songs I have not heard in quite some time here in Richmond. Love and Rockets, when is the last time they were heard here....maybe 4 years ago? Going to be a ripple effect on the ratings in the next year or so. If they get the station off with a good buzz, and people get hooked on it, then it will become a power to be reckoned with. What has me so far, besides something new is the idea of no repeats all day long. If you hear a song, it won't be played again until tomorrow. With this claim, I am assuming that the playlist is at least 1500 songs. So even though it's Liberty....it's a Jack-like format in Richmond.

Ouch. I personally hate all those songs. To me, its rehash or yesteryear's garbage.

At least it has some variety even if it is of the fecal sort.
______________
