WCVB new home of Boston Marathon

I’m surprised this wasn’t posted earlier, as it was announced awhile back. But for the first time in years, the Boston Marathon has a new broadcast home. Well, actually 2. It will primarily be on WCVB, but also WMUR. I guess they’re having it on both channels at once so there’s no competition. But does anyone know the reason for this change? I am a little bummed because Monday is going to be the debut of the new host of Live! It’s some guy named Mark but it’s not airing here.

I think it had been on WBZ for years. I actually remember when it was on all the channels.

It was discussed in the fall, on one of the national TV boards: https://www.radiodiscussions.com/th...o-air-on-wcvb-boston-and-espn-in-2023.751341/

It's Mark Consuelos, who has both been a frequent substitute on Live, and is married to Kelly Ripa.

It will probably air on ME-TV channel 5.2. Also, ESPN will air the Boston Marathon nationally, including here in Boston. It will also be syndicated internationally via ESPN International.

ESPN was blacked out in Boston during the Marathon. They showed ESPN 2
Did that happen only in the Boston Metro or on cable systems throughout the extended Boston market that sports leagues use to determine territorial blackout boundaries? I have no interest in the marathon, so wasn't watching here in Vermont, so no idea what ESPN was feeding Xfinity (or YouTube TV, for that matter) here.

I am in Bristol County. The marathon was a joint production of WCVB and ESPN. WCVBs sports reporters Josh Brogadir and Naoko Funayama were incorporated into the telecast. I guess blacking out the Boston metro area on ESPN was done to give WCVB the full ratings numbers. If the marathon was on ESPN in the Boston area, that would impact the ratings locally.
