WCVB No Longer 'Official Patriots Station?'

WBZ-TV issued a release today stating...

WBZ-TV and the New England Patriots have announced that WBZ-TV is "The Official New England Patriots Playoff Station." As such, WBZ-TV will have exclusive interviews with players and coaches, access to team events and locations, and opportunities for exclusive programming content above and beyond other stations in the Boston market.

WCVB had been the official station for the Pats, which included the so-called 'exclusive access' and their weekly 'All-Access' program. Could this be somehow related to the issue with the WCVB/CBS/NBC simulcast of the December 29th game? (i.e., 'CVB feels they no longer wish to do business with the League and Team following the breach of broadcast rights contract).

WBZ-TV's press release said "Official New England Patriots Playoff Station," which of course they are since they'll be carrying all postseason games the team plays except for "The Big Game in Februrary" (I don't think I'm allowed to say "S***r B**l" in a public forum since I'm not an Official NFL Corporate Partner ;D ).

I don't think that has anything to do with next season's preseason games unless the contract is up and they're looking for an edge.

Isn't CBS going to have a big thing at the new Patriots Place? I'd tend to think it has more to do with that.

The ch:5 deal likely ended with the final regular season game of '07 (two weeks ago). WBZ was probably right there with a nice offer that WCVB didn't want to match.

If Lobel does the Belichick show I'm sure it will be considerably less painful for him than the dreadful Pitino thing (with his cronies) he had to be involved with.

don't be naive. the krafties would love to have their informercials to run on every station in the market if they could.
every show(5th qtr, patriots access, totally patriots, etc) are tightly controlled and producded by their media group. the 'official patriots playoff' title comes with a price and it ain't cheap. make the check payable to the krafies....
