WCVJ Jefferson to Air1?

Just curious as to when WCVJ was taken over by EMF Broadcasting's Air1. I had been able to hear the station at my grandparents in northern Mercer County, PA, but I haven't had a chance to tune in recently. Wasn't it a local, listener-supported station? If so, how did the supporters react to the change?

It's always been a religious station.

Yes - but there's a big difference between the Christian soft AC and talk on WCVJ previously and the Christian CHR of Air 1. It would be like someone taking WHBC-AM in Canton and turning into a CHR. To answer the question - I think the purchase happened a couple months ago, but I don't know the details.

According to a google search; and http://www.johnpierceco.com/sold.htm

07/29/05
WCVJ-Sold
FM
Jefferson, OH
$650,000.00

They used to have a web presence, but that is gone now that EMF owns them and their noting more than a satellite dish next to a transmitter shack;

Their website as of 2004:

http://web.archive.org/web/20041013061048/www.wcvj.org/home.shtml

from what I can tell, they went away without any knowledge to the listeners, so hard to tell how their "soft AC" listeners reacted...

Air1s format is a touch harder than KLove (EMF's AC format) so I dont know how much they reacted, Air1 is not to bad a format though.

I knew about this a couple of months ago from Illinois. But was actually going to this site to post why Ohio Media Watch which covers the area never said anything? All kinds of news about WEXC 107.7 Greenvile, PA but not a word about WCVJ.

EMF also just bought a translator in Cleveland at 103.7 to relay air1 on from WCVJ. Speaking of which K-Love has a CP for 91.9 in Cleveland. And 90.9 in Hinckley to go with 91.7 in Wadesworth.

My initial reaction to this is best placed on a another board or another forum altogether.

But, all you engineers out there: does the Hinckley translator stand a chance? 90.9, less than 20 miles from 15kw 91.1 WRUW?

I'm gonna start a church just so I can buy translators all over God's green earth (or in Cleveland, God's somewhat brownfield earth).

OMW's Not Perfect, But...

As the owner, operator, and chief bottlewasher at OMW, I'm sorry I missed this. :)

Generally speaking, religious formats fly under my personal radar. WEXC was an exception, because I'm pretty familiar with the situation regarding the owners and operators, and since the Christian rock/hip-hop "Freq 107" format is locally programmed. I'll put something up soon, because of this:

I know EMF has translator apps all over the place...but that's an interesting reason for them to buy WCVJ. They're not necessarily solely interested in putting the format on in the Ashtabula region...but they NEED it to seed Air1 translators on the commercial band, since those have to be fed by over-air (as opposed to the non-comm band translators, which can be fed via satellite).

UPDATE: The OMW entry is here:
