WCVO buys WRFD

WRFD is a CASH COW and does not and never has needed rating to make money, ask anybody in radio or media sales of any type in Columbus and they can tell you one of the most profitable stations in the market is WRFD...no questions asked and no debate.

WCVO makes money, they just have to put the majority of the money they make back into their core endeavors as a non-profit, which does not mean that they do not make profit...it's the same for them as it is for any other organization with that status.

All of that said, WRFD is going to face some challenges in keeping up that proud tradition under the new ownership as national programs will cancel to place their budget elsewhere within the Salem umbrella of properties. Filling the programming time is not a challenge, replacing the amount of money those programs pay for their slots will be a huge undertaking.
 
I've wondered about the national buys, although in other markets, it's not uncommon to see the national buys on several stations, so I don't expect a mass exit from RFD. But shift in revenue may be possible.

Anyone know if they are going to keep the afternoon talk show dude? With CVO's move to do away with local talent, would they do the same with RFD hosts?
 
I wouldn't expect ALL of the national programs to go but I can imagine they will lose a few and I can also imagine without the full cache of Salem behind WRFD now that a few of those programs will move to renegotiate the money they spend and still others will go away.

I would suspect all the national minstries on WRFD to stay as that is a voice they have during the days in Columbus... some of the Salem specific stuff I could see exit though.. Either way with combing the two stations WCVO will still make money off WRFD I am sure.

And you would be wrong as at least one prime program has not renewed and made it known they will not be renegotiating ewither...that doesn't mean that CVO will not make money on WRFD it's just that the amount of money they are going to make is not going to be equal to what Salem was billing on it.

FOR SURE...CVO will make money on it and it is really good to have both the primary signals for a Christian format in Columbus working together instead of competing.

Now they have to compete with WHKC who if they ever figure things out is going to really be a challenge to both WRFD and WCVO for audience share...CDR, not so much but also don't forget that American Family Radio has also put a 6KW signal in Grove City and once all the engineering is done, that should pretty well cover the city with the same national teaching programs that WRFD is offering.

Honestly the only ones in the area that get my attention for the most part is 91.5 WHKC when they have music blocks on the weekend that isnt a loop, and Radio U. I do sometimes listen to 88.1/89.1 from time to time when they are in music blocks.

In a not likely related thing. I noticed CVCO's Promise Radio network has now added blocks of music instead of being ministry/preaching 24/7.

Hmmmm, I'd imagine WRFD becomes the flagship for that network. I have listened to HKC a couple of times but RadioU is UNLISTENABLE (IMHO)...I find myself more interested in my iPod than anything being carried on the airwaves these days.
 
WCVO FM 104.9 has finally moved to it's new tower site. This means that they now have the money to purchase WRFD.
CVO can final close on the land at it's old transmitters site to generate enough cash so they can finally purchase WRFD AM.

CVCO should wake up and smell the coffee....WRFD is not worth a third of what they are paying. Most of the teaching programs are going to WHKC next year. Most All Programs they currently run is direct inquiry programs which pay only based on leads generated. Not only to mention WRFDs signal Sucks since they moved to 1230s tower on the south end. In worthington at 3:00PM you can hear WCBS poking through their signal. Go farther North to Marion and they are unlistenable. If I had 4 Million Dollars to spend to buy a Radio Station I would Put It Toward Purchasing The WNKO Move In or the WCVZ Baltimore Station. That is probably why they Kept those call letters hoping that CVCO would come to their senses.

They could always go after WHKC ... I am suprised no one has went after them to purchase them (Hello EMF..) Im really suprised EMF has not tried to gooble up WHKC, or WCVZ... or both ... that would allow them to bring Air1 and KLove to this market.

Now days almost all ministries are doing the pay per leads.. I beleive I heard Focus has completely went to this for their programming (no longer buying time on stations) and other ministries also do this. WRFD makes money on the local / national programming that buys air time on the station plus the commericals they air.

The last deadline, December 21, for the sale of WCVO to WRFD has come and gone.
As of this morning, I don't see where WRFD has asked for another sales extension from the FCC.
Maybe it will be posted on the FCC website later today? Maybe the sale of WRFD to WCVO is officially dead?
The FCC gave it's permission for WRFD to be sold to WCVO over 15 months ago. Most people on the thread
said it wasn't going to happen.
 
There is no new EXTENSION OF CONSUMMATION of the sale for WRFD so it looks like the sale is dead, at least for now and certainly not for four million dollars.

The reasons may be that WCVO doesn't have the four million dollars to purchase WRFD. Maybe WCVO
finally realized that four million dollars is way too much money for WRFD during this current deep recession.

If WRFD was worth four to five million five years ago, it would be worth around two million tops at this time.?
 
Is there a lag between filing with the commission and posting to the web site?

My guess is it's in Salems best interest to hold CVCO to this is they can unless they can find someone with similar or deeper pockets. I don't think there's someone like that out there.
