WCVT Stowe VT to drop classical

It's a shame but the number of commercial classical stations is dwindling to almost none. In Maine and New Hampshire, the Bach network, two stations on the lower Maine Coast, and two in NH, are gone. Only one in Thompson (between Portland and Bangor) remain, along with a translator in Portland. And unlike Vermont, New Hampshire's public radio network has no Classical music and Maine's public radio network only features Classical music from 9am - Noon.

Classical music on the radio in most places only survives through non-commercial stations. And of course, those non-commercial operations' first priority is NPR News-Talk. Then, if they have resources left over, they may run a Classical station. If not, you're out of luck. So many places in the U.S. have NO Classical music on the dial. Or any music other than some variation of Top 40, Rock and Country, with maybe Latin and/or Urban in communities where they might be popular. No other music on the radio dial. None.

Update 6/12: Radio Vermont has confirmed that “101 The One” will debut on Tuesday, July 1 at 6:00am. The new format will be heard not only on 101.7 WCVT, but also 101.5 WEXP Brandon/Rutland. WEXP currently features a Classic Rock as “101.5 The Fox“. While not disclosing the format, Radio Vermont states that it will be feature a music service with a full-service presentation of local hosts, news, and weather.

Hit the off switch

I no longer listen to radio. Why? Music? Voice trackers that have nothing to say? I will say this, the Squire group does it right. I'm sure they will do this right.

Disappointing

At first listen, not impressed. Jocks so so. Music at times is a real stretch.

101 the one

This type format is what puts radio stations out of buisness, pulled all advertising away from this station, others advertisers are following suit, GO BACK TO Conn.

101 The one

On second thought, music is weak and so are the jocks. I do enjoy the Friday night chill out.

Am not in VT now but I like to visit. Can't find a website or stream or facebook for WCVT 101.7 or WEXP 101.5...if a station doesn't bother with such things, like a tree falling in the forest, does it make a sound...?

They are on Facebook and Twitter and according to their Facebook page their website 101theone.com will be up shortly and have a webstream. I am hoping they are on the Tunein app too. I live in the area and enjoy this station. It seems to be picking up advertisers too which is good.

My wife and I were in Vermont last weekend. We listened to WCVT for quite some time and liked what we heard. Some songs from the usual artists that we haven't heard "forever". I am looking forward to the website getting up and running so I can listen at work.
