Not the exact date T.J. but being as how I worked for CXI as a weekend jock for 10 years, from the beginning which was about a month or so before we could use the new calls. They still had to use the correct ID of WCAR at the top of the hour, but the rest of the time we used "Country 11". They had a nice set of jingles ready to go once the approval process was completed. The station had good ratings right away since nearly all the jocks were former WDEE personalities. DEE underwent an ownership change in April of 1978 and let most of the air staff go. By the fall of '79 WDEE gave up country music and changed call letters and format. CXI had a much better 50,000 watt daytime signal and a whole lot better nighttime signal then DEE. As the 80's progressed, CXI fell prey to W4 and their great FM signal after they switched to country in the early 80's. Eventually CXI was being bought by the owners of W4 around 1984. I was one of a few jocks that went with the new owners to studios on East Jefferson where W4 was housed. WCXI AM & FM was part of Gene Autry's Golden West Broadcasting which was a conglomerate of stations being sold by Mr. Autry. CXI remained country into the early 90's.
