WCZX is having a True Oldies Weekend

WCZX is having a True Oldies Weekend playing music from the 60’s and 70’s as well as some 80’s mixed in that I haven’t heard on 97.7 since they switched from oldies to mix several years ago. Interesting choice of a tag line ‘True Oldies’ since sister stations WEOK /WALL just changed to True Oldies Channel. I could only listen a short time after I heard this and I didn’t hear anything but is this perhaps some sort of link promotion of 1390 &1340 . In order for WEOK /WALL to have any shot of attracting any listeners that long ago abandon them they desperately need promotion.

Interesting- think that they may make the switch to true oldies??? TOC is the best thing going, even thought I'm against anything but live and local. Also, seems like in the past "OLDIES" is a cuss word in the industry; the powers that be might be rethinking this since the radio biz is in the dumper along with everything else in this economy. Please keep us posted. I worked there when it was on mill st, 98 FaMe- sure was a cool place to work, great folks to work with.

Not sure how the contract goes with the TOC- whether they will allow live local in the am, or prefer all Scott all the time. Oldies always worked for 'CZX. if they did switch, the station slogan would contain "the true oldies channel"...would love to see it on fm...

WVKZ 1240 in Schenectady is also a TRO affiliate and just a few weeks ago veteran Albany broadcaster Walt Adams started a live and local morning show using the songs from Scott's library. So there should not be a problem where you guys are. Honestly, 24 hours a day of anyone is too much. Makes Scott seem like a egomaniac plus it's boring.

I couldn’t agree more. 24-7 of anyone is way too much. I suppose it keeps costs down, but TOC needs to have a regular DJ lineup. I am sure even the most passive listener realizes he isn’t there all the time. However even recording the voice track for that many hours must take a considerable amount of time, unless he is repeated. Since sister stations WEOK/ WALL just started this low cost programming I don’t see Cumulus moving it WCZX.
It's to bad WEOK's Nighttime signal travels less than 5 miles east-west due to a near total null.

I hope if Rick McCaffery is going to come out of retirement, he will be doing the "Solid Gold Jukebox" on the "True Oldies" station along with the "Doo-Wop Cruise" segment from 9 PM to 11 PM. I love doo-wop music from the 50's and early 60's, but I hope it should bring it back on either WEOK/WALL or move it over to FM.

Believe me, Rick's not going back to 'CZX; I believe he left there on less than ideal terms, thats why cheap channel picked him up. Will be interesting to see what happens here; I really don't see them running the TOC unless they were testing the waters. I also don't see them doing this to promote the pea shooter WEOK. Def correct about the signal, can't hear in some parts of Pok at nite...

That would be great but I don’t Cumulus is putting any money into their AM stations. Rick left WCZX because they changed formats. Anybody feel free to correct me but I thought I heard Rick on WKIP doing news and traffic in the morning, after he ‘retired’ from Solid Gold Juke Box. This was his regular shift when he was doing the oldies show on Saturday Night. In other words, although I don’t listen to WKIP much, so I could be wrong but I think he might still be there at CC.
