WDAC ratings, revenue?

I don't see much discussion of 94.5, WDAC, Lancaster's traditional Christian radio station, on the board.

How does WDAC typically do in the ratings? Does anyone know if it translates into much advertising revenue (and any way of knowing how much)?

WDAC has consistently ranked within the top 3-4 stations in the Lancaster ratings -- usually with WIOV, WLAN, and WQXA. In fact, a few years ago they actually came in #1 for Lancaster for one or two ratings books, and they promoted it on some billboards throughout the county. It also consistently comes between #10-15 for Harrisburg and maybe a little lower for York.

I don't know about the revenue, but the station is privately owned by Paul Hollinger (retired station manager) and two sons of the founder. The station has been on the air since 1959 with virtually the same format, and it consistently receives strong support from both its listeners and advertisers.

Another thing of interest is that, according to the station's web site, all of the weekday air personalities have 25+ years worth of experience with WDAC. They even have two sales reps who started with the station 45 years ago in 1963. That is something quite rare these days.

I wonder if, in terms of employee satisfaction, they make it any nicer to work there than it would be at a mainstream commercial station.

They are a true testament to HD radio. They have traditional content on the analog and HD1, and on HD2 they are broadcasting contemporary content. That's a great idea and a great use of the HD technology.

Another little-known fact -- In addition to their use of HD programming, WDAC also broadcasts satellite-fed Spanish Christian programming via a subcarrier frequency that can only be picked up using fixed-tuned radios that they helped to distribute to Lancaster's Spanish population a few years ago.

Seems like they're doing what radio should do for a community. Certainly what you would expect from Christian radio. I just wish they still owned WBYN in Boyertown. Miss that station. Periodically, I can get WDAC instead of WPST if I fidget with the antenna enough.

I miss their 106.7 station in Boyertown also. WDAC's owners must have made quite a profit in selling it off to the commercial broadcaster now using the frequency.

I used to listen to WDAC during the first half of my commute and then pick up WBYN during the latter part.
