WDAE - Rome

Probably whoever Fox Sports Radio fills that daypart with by default... has that even been announced yet?

Of all the possibilities, I think that is the least likely.

Now that 620 is the ESPN affiliate, I think the most likely additions would be one of:

a) Mike & Mike
b) Colin Cowherd, or
c) SVP and Russillo

The first two would require a reshuffling of the current lineup.

Or the 4th possibility is 620 goes live and local in that time slot.

THIS. I'd prfer live and local to anything on ESPN.

I think Bobby Fenton would be a nice fit for the old Rome slot. Also have enjoyed Todd Wright over on FM if they could get him.

Bobby's made it pretty clear that his job working in the tv truck for the Tampa Bay Rays pays better than his radio gigs. He's got a kid now and it wouldn't make sense for him to take the risk of quitting a stable job with benefits to run the risk of failing in the Rome spot and being out of a job.

^this.

As a youngster in the industry, I found out working in the truck can be much better long term than short term glory on a stick somewhere. And at least you know the hours you are going to work, more or less

I like Bobby. But if he chose not to take the job (if offered) I could understand that. Personally, I dont think any competent local talent would fail against Rome. Of course, maybe I'm not speaking for most people but while I used to find Romes show fun and entertaining, now I think his act is tired, old, irritating, and juvenile.

I agree with that, Rome used to rail against callers who used a script a decade ago, now not only is he scripted, but he repeats line for line and word for word the same scripted takes seemingly every hour now, and seems to almost encourage scripted calls now. I guess he can't talk smack about scripted calls if he himself is scripted word for word his entire show. He got too big for tour stops and the like, and then his 7 weeks of vacation he just can't shut up about, and it just seems like he has been mailing it in for a while now IMO

Tour stops don't bother me. He's also older and has 2 or 3 kids now. If he wanted to stop, then I see no issue there. The last time I tried to listen much at all was around the NBA All Star Game and he kept running that stupid black mambaaaaaaa snippet over and over. It was dumb and inconsequential from the get go and then he played it over and over and over and over.

Mohr seems to have been cleared in a lot of markets. Interesting into see how this goes, he should be able to hold onto Rome's fans.

Also heard some of Rome today on 1010, sounds like he has tightened things up a bit.

I know Mohr isn't that much younger than Rome, but Rome sounds old and sad still trying to do the "dude bro" character.

I freakin' love Jay Mohr's show! He's funny. He's plugged in and inviting. Rome sounded like a jerk season ticket holder that looked down on the guy he didn't see at every game. Mohr's show sounds like a conversation you could hear at any great sports bar.

I never really liked Rome, even early on, but I "got it". And I got why people liked it, it just wasnt for me. What's hilarious is that over the last 5 - 10 years he pretty much has shat on his old audience that made him what he is now. His show is a shadow of what it was.

It's all scripted, Rome himself rarely steps outside "the box" or takes a counter side to the public sentiment. It's kind of a joke. Also the fact that he let an outsider win the smack-off last year I think was the final nail in the coffin for a lot of his listeners.

He even solicits listeners/viewers to send him content via Twitter for his CBS Sports Network show! But hey, balancing three broadcasts, I guess he can welcome the help...
