WDBD 40 to go IND or FOX?

A short time ago, we discussed the future of WDBD's affiliation and it was determined and verified by Mike Dunlop that WDBD will go FOX, but apparently this is susposed to be a secret. I myself even verified this from them as well. However, now, Wikipedia says that WDBD will revert to Independent status at that time instead of reverting back to FOX. Is this true?

It wouldn't make any sence to have two Independent stations and have FOX and MNTV on Channel 35... if this happens, its a safe bet, WDBD will be dropped from DirecTV, Dish, probably Suscom/Comcast. I don't believe Mike would tell us WDBD will become FOX again then suddenly make it Independent..?

Wikipedia isn't always the best source for information, so I'd be a little skeptical about that. Also, I saw a billboard for WB40 next to the Target on I-55. If they're going to drop WB as early as this month, I don't know why they would waste money on a billboard.

its a safe bet, WDBD will be dropped from DirecTV, DishAccording to the must carry law, if WDBD requests to be carried then Dish and Directv must indeed carry the signal, regardless of affiliation. I believe that the earlier report is still correct. They probably have decided to wait for September, which was more logical to me anyway.

actually, the must carry law says they must carry network affiliates and if WDBD drops WB and goes Independent, its a safe bet that it will be dropped from the satellite's programming lineup. If that was the case, WXMS would be still carried

To my understanding must carry only applies to full power tv stations. WXMS was dropped, not because of network affiliation, but because it is a Low Power station. Nothing in SHVERA requires LPTV(WXMS) or Class A(WBMS) stations to be carried. I am not an authority, however.

> To my understanding must carry only applies to full power tv stations...That is correct. Translators, LPTVs, and Class As may not require carriage on local cable systems. That being said, must-carry is in a state a flux at the moment. The FCC recently decided, essentially, to leave the current rules alone. The question was how to deal with new digital TV (DTV) stations. Should cable systems, the Commission asked, be required to give a second cable channel to pass a TV station's DTV signal as well as the analog (This was called "Dual" must-carry). The question also was asked how to deal with DTV multicasting. Many DTV have more than one stream -- here in Memphis, one station has 5 -- count 'me -- 5 streams on its DTV. Another has 4. Yet another has 3. Correctly, I would argue, the Commission decided to leave well-enough alone. But, that's not the end of the question. Congress can and may weigh in. There is legislation before Congress to allow for Dual Must-Carry, and some proposals for multi-must-carry. Lobbying is tough. the NAB wants more access to must carry, but cable programmers do not, as they might get bumped from systems. We'll have to see how all this plays out.DE
