WDBO FM Translator

Nice find. It appears to be moving into Winter Garden just SE of Lake Apopka. I was just in Mt Dora but didn't scan FM while I was there. But wow, WDBO on regular FM once again! ...Sorta. Wonder if there are any more of these hidden around?

Just realized WHTQ has taken over what appears to be a former Z88.3 translator (?) in Groveland @ 102.7 FM as well.

Looks like there's a Rumba translator up in Volusia county now too, around DeBary at 107.3.

I heard some sportscast on 95.9 one evening a few days ago, perhaps it was a Magic game. It was extremely clear, but that was when I could pick up tons of other radio stations, too, so that could be something else.

The 107.3 WRUM translator is actually "Reach-FM", who I think bought out one of the HD channels on WRUM.

^ Your 95.9 had to have been WSJZ Melbourne. They are all-sports. Tropo conditions have been very good.

I have been watching this for months as Z88 has moved translators around using WPYO, WHTQ and WDBO. No big deal. My guess is WPOZ is probably trying to move a couple of translators in to town in order to give their HD channels an FM voice.

Their HD-2 is a very unique, as in Christian hip-hop. Sounds like an oxymoron, but is quite well assembled and a great listen. The HD-3 is Christian rock and so-so.

Using a third party to make the move, such as Cox, and particularly using an AM such as WDBO, make it easier as this qualifies as a "fill-in" under the rules.

I dont see why they have a translator when you can get a signal of WHTQ on the main frequency. Same with WPOZ/WMYZ in this location. Two main stations iw with what i think is overlapping coverage?
John

i don't think wdbo needs a translator that way. i bet it's one of wpoz's hd signals.... kinda of topic heer but last night i was on the way home from palm bay and i was listening to the magic on 95.9 and the signal dropped off real bad in melbourne. it was just past west melbourne. is that the norm? i used to be able to hear them at least until titusville.... this was on a car radio btw....

Dude, both WPOZ and WMYZ broadcast in HD, but i'm not sure your point?
Why would WPOZ ever have needed to put a translator in Groveland? Seems like overkill to me.

good question John. ask the owners of the station. doesn't wmyz have a good signal out there? i heard they weer going to get 88.5 to 100000 watts. they should do that. then they should not need all those translaters. the whole comunity radio thing has been very messed up. and while we're on that topic, the reach fm translater on 107.3 comes in better where i live than the 104.5 in altamonte and i live in altamonte... but now i can't barely dx on 107.3. but i rememberr one night 107.3 from jacks was blasting in.

First of all... just because a translator is licensed to WDBO or WHTQ doesn't mean that the programming from those primary stations are airing on it. Same situation in Tampa Bay where Clear Channel's WFUS and WFLA "own" a few translators as well. More often than not, they're simply re-transmitting "Reach-FM" programming.... which if I may be so bold in saying... IS GETTING WAY OUT OF CONTROL. Are they doing this all legally? I guess the answer is yes but they sure are cluttering the dial.

In other words, the lisince station doesn't mean the programming from the primary signal is on that translator.
How does that work?
What would say WHTQ do. Rent the frequency to somebody else?
somebody else pays rent, and they can air whatever programming they so choose ?
Thanks,
John

;D ;D Ha Ha Ha..Got all y'all thinking now! Not to say I told you so, but I told you I would eventually return to Central Florida Radio! ;D ;D

Sorry Big Ape, you just don't 'translate'.
