WDEL 90th Birthday today

Happy Birthday to WDEL, 90 today. July 30, 1922 WHAV 1120kc signed on the air in Wilmington. In 1926 the calls were changed to WDEL transmitting 100watts of power. A number of years later their frequency was changed to 1150kc (today's kz). In 1930 WILM went on the air and both were owned by the same company and shared the same building, the Odd Fellows Building in downtown Wilmington. WDEL was an NBC Red Radio affiliate, while WILM was an NBC Blue radio affiliate (today's ABC radio). At one point the owners of WDEL and WILM were required to sell off one station, so WILM was sold. Today WDEL's transmitts not at 100w, but 5,000w is located in North Wilmington and today is a CBS radio affiliate. I'm sure there are those here who know even more details of WDEL's radio history, but that is a short overview. A lot of talented radio folks passed through WDEL during those many years. Again, Happy 90th Birthday WDEL. Looking forward to your 100th Birthday.
