WDEL Daytime Power Increase

Interesting to see an application on file for a power increase from 5000 to 10000 watts daytime for WDEL. And it appears to put a better signal off the back and side of the system so thats certainly going to help them. Night remains at 5000 watts.

That would be an interesting increase. Though currently, my problem is the night signal. They are very difficult to hear in Newark until the daytime pattern kicks in.

I guess that 10K signal would give them a strong signal throughout Delaware to the beach maybe to Ocean City, MD and with a stronger back and side signal a stronger signal in Philly as well as in Cecil and Hartford counties in Maryland. That can only be good for WDEL. AM radio may be dying, but it appears that WDEL isn't going down without a fight.

Of course that then makes one wonder how long before WILM and WWTX apply for a power boost to say 2.5kw or even 5kw daytime from their meger 1kw setup's now.

WWTX has been 2.5kw for some time now, back to the WJBR-AM standards days. But isn't 1kw the max for 1450 stations?

as long as WILM is on 1450, they'll be 1000 watts day and night, thats the limit for 1230, 1240, 1340, 1400, 1450 and 1490.

You can see what the new WDEL pattern will be at www.fccinfo.com, plus their present pattern, it is let out quite a bit toward the north and west.

And hope they're stocking up on filters for all the RF complaints they're going to get when it hits the air, I'm sure it will be coming in on everyones toaster within a quarter mile of the site!
