WDEL & two program options

While driving home and listening to the Phillies yesterday, I was reminded of something rare in media these days.

As newspapers get thinner and radio cuts back on every position they can possibly get along without, WDEL hangs in there. Rick Jensen had a short (10") promo during the game to remind the WDEL listeners that they have two choices. They can listen to the game (my choice) or listen to him on WDEL.com. He didn't mention it, but he was also on 93.7 HD3. So those still stuck at the workplace or listening at home (or the few with HD radios in their car), could get their talk-show fix & Allan Loudell's news as usual.

As badly as radio has been hit by this recession, what Delmarva Broadcasting does is remarkable. Offering two program options from their AM during the game, plus some live content on 93.7's HD2. After the cuts at WILM and WWTX (dropping their live/local pm drive show), loosing 1380 and local programming on 1260 (it's programming comes from Washington DC on a cheap phone line), what is coming to us from Shipley Road is refreshing.

Thanks. I'll also point out the "secondary" programming is also available on your iPhone & Blackberry using our apps. I have plugged my Blackberry into my car's iPod jack so that I can listen to WDEL in the car when I'm out of signal range.
