WDEL's Conversion is now complete

I heard the other day on WDEL an announcement promoting the free speakers from WDEL (formerly the WILM speakers bureau). WDEL has completed the conversion of being what WILM had been prior to the Clear Channel purchase. I give WDEL/Delmarva management a lot of credit for taking the numerous good ideas that Allan Loudell had instituted at WILM during his 15+ years there as News Director and now making many of those their own.

I used to say that it would be interesting to hear what WILM would sound like IF they ever had a quality broadcast facility. I had no idea that this would mean the "spirit" of WILM moving to WDEL. But that is what has happened with Allan Loudell moving from WILM to WDEL. I feel bad for those at WILM, who are also quality broadcast news professionals who've strived for excellence ( I've worked with those folks so I know of what I speak), but with CC's butcher knife have made the product far less then it could be with those excellent people at their new state of the art broadcast center than when it was at 12th and French Sts with the crappy 1970's equipment and that delapidated building under the ownership of the Hawkins.

This isn't a shot at those great folks at WILM, just an observation of what happens when a national corporation takes over what was a successful local company that had made radio news in Wilmington a product of excellence. Somehow WDEL/Delmarva are able to make that "WILM formula" work at WDEL.
