Spence, mentioned all this, today on his Saturday with Spence show. I'm surprised he's not taking along his two side kicks to WSTW as the three of them together are pretty entertaining. They were discussing Chelsey Clinton's upcoming wedding that is costing 2 million buckaroonies (makes you wonder how much of this will be paid for by us tax payers - hey this is the Clinton's - at least extra Secret Service, etc). Lots of humor, a light entertaining topic for a Saturday morning. Two of the three are leaving- Spence, I don't remember her name, are leaving the Saturday show. She is going back to a North Jersey station and Spence only said he's moving to other duties within the company ( of course we here already know he's going to WSTW - I guess Delmarva isn't into cross promoting their sister station's as CC Delaware does between WILM/WWTX/WDOV/WDSD/WRTX). The other guy is the producer and he said he'd stay for now, but might have other things with the company, etc. The former host from 10+ years ago, I believe he said Joe Farmer, will be taking over the show starting next week.
Spence said, he'd do some stuff for WDEL with the Phillies, but that was it as he had to devote his full attention to his new duties in the company (WSTW).
I've never met the guy, I know some here like him, others appear to despise him. I don't listen to WSTW (don't like their music at all), but I wish him luck as he's going have big time pressure to make AM drive on Delmarva's top station become a success and I'd assume part of his mandate is for him to beat out WJBR as being the default music station for the Wilmington area. Spence has talent, a good sense of humor. If he has a good side kick and music that has a more broad mass appeal he probably can beat out WJBR, time will tell. Some of that will also depend on how much creative and musical freedom he has in doing his new show.
Spence is in the spot many of us would like to have, doing a AM drive time show on one of Delaware's largest FM stations. Talk about pressure. Good luck Spence. I might even tune in to 93.7 to hear what you do there as I did enjoy your Saturday show on WDEL.
