New around here--

I see there has been a lot of discussion in regards to the "changes" at WDHA 105.5. One change for the better I have noticed is the new "sound" of the station imaging and promos. I really like what I am hearing!! Anyone know who the new voice over guy is or who is responsible for the imaging? Is it done in-house?

I'm just curious as I am a production guy myself.

Thanx

didnt notice a new voice till i herd the "big screen weather" change sponsers. why have a big screen on radio? never got that one.

New guy sounds wrong for a "classic style rocker" like DHA. no bass in his voice no ballsy delivery. and most of the pieces I have heard the "imaging person" seems to have his voice drowned out by music and effects that aren't needed. not clean at all. sounds like he belongs on a modern rocker (back in the 90's) More pronounced though is I heard about a week ago voice tracks and music that didn't match during the day! do they voice track full time? shouldn't the "imaging person" be somewhat responsible for the correct Vtracks going in? they are at other stations.
I must confess, never really checked out DHA much because it has a horrible signal in my neck of the woods, however it is worth the static and interruption just to see how strangely this station is being handled!!

OK...Having lived in NJ ALL MY LIFE I can say that DHA has NEVER been Voicetracked nor is it currently not even partly. Now other Greater Media properties I cannot speak for but at DHA anytime I have ever called, during any daypart, the Jock has ALWAYS answered. They haven't necessarily played my tune :-/ but atleast you know there is a presence there.

On a different note, the music on the station as a whole sounds sooooo incredibly stale and definitely lacks variety. I'm actually afraid that they have fallen victim to more of that "Ridiculous Mess that the Corporate Folks call Research!" WDHA used to have some pretty cool things that they did and specialty weekends, concerts, contests and remotes. It seems that those things are a thing of the past. I guess monetarily its just not as feasible as it once was. Truly a shame because WDHA had such a heritage here in North Jersey. As far back as maybe a month ago, I remember people mentioning how back in the 80's you would see 'DHA Stickers on cars ALL OVER NJ. I think the end was eminent when Greater Media came in and set up shop. Musically I must say that its worth all the tape on the wall and not to mention thumbtacks to pull in WMMR!

My $3 worth...

PS- I will say that the imaging on the station has seen a bit more lively as of late...maybe the past month or so from what I have heard.

Fellow Greater Media Rocker (and generally similar sounding) WRAT also does not use voicetracking - in fact, they even run a message that shuns it and says that they think voicetracking is BS.

I'm all for that - however, the generic sound of these two stations is what's dragging them both down. Blame it on Greater Media and their cookie-cutter approach to the format. Both of these stations needs to lean modern and edgier because there's a need for that type of station in each market. They should shoot for at least 1 Current for every 3 or 4 songs played, IMO. And both should definitely move beyond the 15-20 Currents that they're playing now - that is just pitiful. Basically, WRAT right now sounds like having The Hawk and G Rock Radio on shuffle - there's very few artists and songs that they play that are not heard elsewhere. That definitely needs some work, especially considering the fact that other stations in the market have much stronger signals.

who the heck cares about the amount of currents a station is playing if they aren't even back announcing the right music?????!!! And if they are back announcing the wrong stuff and they are not voicetracking, then that is a totally new and even bigger problem with bad talent!
they "were" a great station...but things change- that station used to be everywhere, a real staple in the state, but yes, possibly the suits don't think it's important to try and cash in on your heritage. Too bad...that is all local radio really has these days. Jersey is much like NY- There is NOTHING out there anymore!

i havent listend in a few weeks. for some strange but lucky(or not) reason i can get nj 101.5 in parsipanny. its a nice change from tony page playing the same caller 3x during his lunch hour. how does that happen anyway? i think we all know those are taped and he'll play the same guy or girl and then try to backtrck out of it. cant belive this is the guy in charge.
