Condolences to family and friends of WDIA-A/MEMPHIS co-founder JOHN R. PEPPER II, who died last MONDAY (11/20) at 91. PEPPER and BERT FERGUSON launched the station in 1948 as the first Southern radio station with an all-African-American airstaff and format. The founders sold the station in 1957, but it remains a successful Urban AC station, now owned by CLEAR CHANNEL.
