WDIA and WREC now on FM (sort of)

WDIA and WREC are now on HD2s.

WDIA has replaced Smooth Jazz on 101.1 hd2.
and
WREC replaced the Active Rock on 102.7 hd2.

WHRK's hd2 was unchanged when I checked and I did not get to check WHAL.

the only people who seem to have HD radio are engineers at radio stations and a few people on this board. finding an HD radio in a store is like finding a needle in a haystack. most stores don't have them. Radio Shack used to have them on display, not sure if they still do. I saw one a Best buy but it was hid in the back of the store. I've seen a few car radios, but they are mostly 'HD ready", with no actual HD tuner. Just like those Pioneer "AM STEREO ready" recievers from the 80's. I have yet to see the actual converter for those recievers. I'm not sure they ever existed.

That's odd, I had no trouble finding HD car stereos at the BB across from the Wolfchase Galleria a while back. They even worked!

And I've bought two Insignia HD portables from Memphis area stores. My first (defective-ish) one came from the Southaven store and the newer one from the new store off Poplar. You just have to look a little for them.

My experience with HD in Memphis was that it was a little better off than some other markets. If I were a conservative talk junkie it'd be worth the $40 to hear WREC clear day and night.

Putting these stronger AMs on HD subchannels is a smart move. They've already bought and wrote off the digital installs, this is basically free programming for the subchannels. No need to go and constantly reboot a computer in a closet now. ;)
