WDIA

One of my all-time favorite stations WDIA is really taking a beat with the PPMs coming to Memphis. In the May PPMs, WDIA is below a 3.0 and out of the top 10 the first time I can remember this ever happening over the years. I hope they can find a way to recover, WDIA is such a unique station musically with the mix of southern blues, classic soul, urban AC and gospel. There must be something with that older audience on AM that PPM does not favor. There strongest competitor is WRBO which seems to be doing quite well in PPM and younger skewing urban AC KJMS is now number 1 in the market.

PPM continues to hurt the ratings of urban stations when it is introduced into new markets. WJMR and WKKV are only starting to recover and are still not back in the top 10 where they were for years in Milwaukee especially WKKV.

Of course PPM also pushed K104 down significantly in Dallas and KBFB way out of the top 10. Don't even ask about 94.5.

Just a few pre-PPM years ago, WDIA was almost always in the top 5 if not the top 2 or 3.

What other major market station has an all-blues Saturday? (with the exception of WDIA competitor WRBO which has a blues Saturday (but I don't think it goes all day).

I think I may have heard that, hope that at least partially explains the huge ratings dip in May but they have been down ever since PPM was implemented in Memphis.

They need a couple FM translators for that station in the WORST way now. The station's array had just been rebuilt when they flooding came and knocked them off. It seemed like they were on low power forever before they finally got the work done then it flooded them out which did knock them off for a bit totally. They diplexed in with another AM station at really low power to just have something on the air. At this point I don't know if they are even back up full blast. Hopefully they are. The flood really screwed things up a ton. Even without mother nature's wrath 'DIA has been a downward spiral it seems. I just hope there's a possibility of it's return to the top 10 at least. I'm very fearful that the bean counters in San Antonio who likely could care less about it's heritage might screw the place up further. Without the billing to back it up it's just a matter of time before they start really making things even worse.

Music still sounds good but they are without announcers in a lot of dayparts. They got rid of the afternoon guys a few months ago. They got rid of the midday DJ a few years ago as well as the evening DJ! I think they are back near the bottom of the top 10 in the ratings. Yes, it would be a travesty if CC messed with them any further.
