I would bet the "over" on this one, simply because WKNO had the HD radio as a premium over the past two pledge drives. Of course, I didn't stamp them and ship them, so I don't know how many there were, but it beat out the tote bags in popularity.
It wouldn't surprise me if there was over 1,000 HD radios active in the greater Memphis area. But it also wouldn't surprise me if it were less than 90. ;D

Well said...with all of the focus on cutting expenses, cutting staff, etc., the new owners of Clear Channel probably have not focused on the money spent on HD with all it's promises and the pitiful return. HD was hailed as the saving grace of radio...where is it in the pecking order of saving the industry now?
I have HD in my car only. I do actually use it. I listen to all 3 streams on WKNO especially the BBC stream (HD3) as it sounds better than it does on XM. I listen to Jazz on 101.1 hd2 occasionally also.
HD in the car competes with a DVD Player (many DVD full of mp3s')
USB thumbdrives several 8 and 16 gig drives full of music.
XM
and streaming via IPhone.
I do listen to BBC World almost daily though.
On a side note WKNO's new building is coming along like gang busters.
I get to look at it almost every morning.
