WDJO Changes

They're simulcasting the oldies format on 1480, and based on the liner I heard today, and confirmed by the website, 1160 is going away as an oldies station. Which kinda sucks because 1480s signal doesn't make it nearly as far north. What's in store for the 1160 frequency? Is there room for more fire and brimstone preaching? A talk station with fifth tier talkers?
Some of us listen to WSWO anyway, right? 
This piqued my curiosity so I tried out both signals in the Dayton area today. 1160 sounded stronger, but it could have been a difference in audio processing. Hardly a scientific measurement. I also noticed just down the dial that the Classic Country Radio people have done some work on 1130 WEDI. It used to sound very thin and tinny compared to their other two stations, but now the audio was almost identical between 1130 and 1500.gr8oldies said:

I agree gr8..my guess is that Alchemy wants to stop dealing with Christian Broadcasting Systems Ltd...it' s been over three years now that WDJO has been at 1160...and you're right. I cannot pull in 1480 north of Dayton either.gr8oldies said:

When Salem owned 1160, they failed at talk. With both 55KRC and WLW being the #1 and #2 rated stations, I bet a brokered format of some kind will wind up on 1160. If someone had the financial backing, a local sports talk format during the day would really kick CC Cincinnati in the pants now that 1530 WCKY basically all Fox Sports Radio except for afternoon drive.

Good for WDJO, I listen to them when I can online and they have a great sounding stream with the music I love. All I listen to is oldies and classic country which brings me to WEDI. The old transmitter from Stanley Coning (WCTM) went to it's final reward and Joe Mullins put in a new one about a month back.
My road test going between Huber Heights and Xenia was really no contest with 1160 almost being a blaster compared to 1480, which was there but weak and alreeady had interference coming in from WHBC AT 6:30PM. nOTICING THE Radio-Locator maps, which I know are for entertainment purposes only, 1480- has a null toward Hamilton. Night signal..for starters 300 watts compared to 990. Perhaps there are some antenna fixes that could help.
People like myself in Northern Kentucky will not be able to listen after dark because the signal is non-existent, unless we listen online. I live in Ft Mitchell, just 5 miles up from the river, the daytime signal is nothing to brag about either. I predict this will begin the demise of WDJO unless they invest a great deal of money in the signal, which I do not believe they will

Oops! I meant to put in a good word for Joe Mullins.
I know their engineering consultants will work on what can be done, if at all on that part (allocation), but I think the current state of 1480's transmission facilities are 'shottie' at best... I am sure new stuff will be put in and they will max the facility as best as they can... 1160's death was the night pattern on the Ohio side of the river... But, their streaming numbers are high compared to some of the mainstream formats in town that folks have little need to listen (online)....Too bad they're too close to each other not to long term simulcast...Maybe a move on 1480's part might change that, or not?
I've never heard of a rule that prohibits simulcast under much of any conditions. Can someone pass long that rule number?
From what I understand, everything from the towers to the transmitter is new at WCIN. I wouldn't look for much improvement. I was west of Connersville, IN this morning...1160 was good, 1480...I "think" I heard a spot for the North College Hill bakery buried in the noise.

From this nice dragon's perspective, everyone needs to chill about testing oldies 1480's signal because its not even operating at full power until the transmission system is in place! So all you guys doing your testing and sampling of the signal are wasting gasoline and your time right now. Give it a day or so. I wont say nothing worse than that because Puff is a nice dragon!
Puff just might be on to something....I'm receiving them (WDJO 1480) excellent at the corner of Reed-Hartman and Fields-Ertel in Sharonville - late evening time (10:30pm).
Usually, they can't be heard very well even this close to the towers once they change to nightime pattern. Hmmmm??? ;D

There was an AM/FM simulcast rule from the 70s through the 80s but but until today I've never heard there was a legal problem with a simulcast between 1160 and 1480. Anyway, this evening they weren't simulcasting; 1160 would run about 30 seconds of a song with a liner saying to tune to 1480.
