WDJO now streaming in Living Stereo!

WDJO in Cincy just started streaming in Mp3 128K Stereo. ;D

Sounds great, like I'm listening right off the board. I love the reverb and 'DJO is playing the original versions of the hits. No "wrong" stereo LP versions or fake "Duophonic" stereo mixes.

I wish more commercial oldies stations would get a clue and offer a high bandwidth stream. More props to the good guys!

I'm guessing they'll do that for about 2 months before realizing it costs more money than it earns, but hey I could be wrong...

My 128k stream resides on a free AOL server because its free. It's not financially sustainable to run 128k, sorry.

Yeah, I dont expect the 128K stream will last long either, its very expensive to keep it going.

They might want to try streaming in AAC+ which almost sounds as good at half the bandwidth, but only a few players like Winamp support it now.

It seems microsoft's netshow (WMA or ASX) is the most popular streaming format for commercial oldies stations. But it can really make a mess out of stereo oldies with wide separation of channels.

What about Shoutcast? Isn't that free?

Thats just Mp3 streaming also, I dont know why more don't use it.

Microsoft was really aggressive promoting Netshow in the early 00's and I think thats why its more popular now.

They gave away the netshow streaming software free to streaming service providers and wound up almost burying Real Player just like they did Netscape. A lot of stations used to use Real Player (aka Real Audio) in the late 90's and now very few do.

With the recent buyouts and consolidation of media support companies (Phone-Net-Cable-Streaming), they have probably scored a 'big trade' or 'reduced rate deal'... I have two stations in my market getting 128 and 164kb for total trade out for the promotion of the net service giving them the bandwidth.. It is becoming more affordable than in the past.. Creative cross-promotion with a wireless net or top T-1 provider can pay off..... They (media support companies) want to wheel and deal.... ;)

So many web listeners... its so hard to get in till late afternoon for me. One of the great sounding oldies stations!! Great Programming, they sound so much bigger than they are. The mouse that roared. ;D

They do sound very good in 128k. I put this stream on my pt 15 at home and it's clean. But I do have to pause it for a minute or two at first so it won't be dropping out on web traffic. A few too many burned out songs for my tastes.

On the versions note, I listened to a KYA San Francisco aircheck from Dec 9, 1967 with Penny Lane by the Beatles, where the top 30 hits of 1967 were showcased. The station played the "album cut", not the 45 "radio only" cut with one extra lick of the french horn at the end.
