WDJO Range

The other night I happened to be in Western Hills and tried to tune in to 1480. Not only couldn't I pick it up on the way downtown, I couldn't even tune it in downtown! Is there anywhere at night where folks can actually listen to the station in the car????

The WDJO signal strength in Columbus is not as strong as it was six or seven years ago when they moved to their current tower site.
This leads me to believe they may be having technically problems with their antenna array.

The station still has excellent audio quality in my opinion. At least that hasn't suffered over the years. Sure enjoy listing to the station
on my old GE Super Radio when it is audible in Columbus.

Well, FBR, in looking at their nighttime pattern (i do believe that you were referencing night reception) WDJO has a null aimed right at downtown Cincinnati.
Their processing is doggone good, gabigley1. Reception in Columbus? That is pretty remarkable as they don't even put a quarter of a millivolt towards Columbus.

I'm talking about the daytime power and pattern. They can usually be heard in Columbus right after sunset and before sunrise for an hour
or two at the most.

What is FRB?

I meant FRR. The person who started this thread.
You mentioned the daytime power/pattern. Then your comment is about after sunset and an hour or two before sunrise.... Are they running illegal? You cannot be in the day pattern and power an hour or two before sunrise and after sunset.
Please clarify.

Sorry, an hour or two after sunrise and an hour or two before sunset when they are legally on daytime power/pattern. The station is legal at pattern change times but the nighttime signal is not audible at all.

Northgate!

Well, after dark, where is their signal heard? I've tried from Western Hills to Anderson with no success

But that is not what you wrote. You said right AFTER sunset and an hour or two BEFORE sunrise....
Please look at your post.

My mistake but that mistake it was corrected. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

How is the Daytime signal doing in Cincinnati?

I have always thought that they (1480) had a good daytime signal in Cincy. I thought that their challenge my be northern KY but, i've picked them up, there, as well.

I was working at Parky's Farm last night, in the shadows of the WSAI towers. It was a very slow night, so I got out my Sony SRFM37W and went to see how well WDJO came in there. It was listenable, but you could still hear other stations underneath it. Considering I was only 3 and a half miles from the 'DJO towers I expected better.

You might be in one of their nulls. However, there is just so much you can do with 300 watts.

Even before their signal was crippled with the loss of their heritage site at 106 Glenwood Avenue, I could stand at Springdale and Pippin Roads and see their tower lights but couldn't hear their signal at night. With 3 or 4 350-400' towers, they did quite well during the day.
